Admittedly I'll be pretty surprised if the ultra-conservative 5th circuit upholds the ruling.
They've been ing unhinged this year though
Admittedly I'll be pretty surprised if the ultra-conservative 5th circuit upholds the ruling.
Judges generally don't like bull and they don't like abuse of power. Even if they're conservative.
Judges try to follow the law; they kind of have to. It only makes sense that Trump fails so often in court.
Along with the archaic, anti-democratic frontier/rural/slave-era Cons ution, SCOTUS5 (or 6) were hired to be " ing unhinged" in favor of the oligarchy.
SCOTUS elects dubya/ head war criminals and we get 9/11, and decades of GWOT
corporations are people
money is speech
partisan gerrymandering ain't SCOTUS' problem
gutting VRA because "America has come a long way in 50 years"
etc
SCOTUS + weaponized Cons ution can't be fixed, can't be stopped.
America is ed and un able.
Given the chance when Trash/Barr/Repugs contest Trash's loss, SCOTUS will Americans again.
Reminder: Georgia is trying to steal elections in more or less plain view:
https://hillreporter.com/shocking-st...t-scheme-79485“the real takeaway from this is the state of Georgia is using a methodology for maintaining its voter rolls that is both more expensive and less accurate than what industry would use to maintain a high-quality mailing list.”
The results, published last Monday, are astonishing. Of the more than 300,000 names that were purged from the rolls – nearly four percent of the total number of registered voters in the state – the study discovered that “198,351 Georgia voters who supposedly moved from their registration addresses who, in fact, have not moved at all, and therefore were wrongly purged a 63.3% error rate.” This is a conservative estimate, however, because the report “left out of this list those voters whose addresses we were unable to confirm,” The Palast Fund explains.
That didn't take long...

fake drop boxes in Cali

Ballot harvesting good when the GOP does it
On its website, the Fresno County Republican Party also shared a list of “secure” ballot collection locations. None are official county drop box sites, with the local GOP instead listing its own headquarters, multiple gun shops and other local businesses.“Operating unofficial ballot drop boxes – especially those misrepresented as official drop boxes – is not just misleading to voters, it’s a violation of state law,” Padilla said, with a felony conviction carrying a prison sentence of two to four years.
The California Republican Party did not respond to requests for comment about the boxes by deadline. But they’ve been defending the practice in replies on Twitter, alleging the process was made legal under a 2016 law that allows California voters to designate a person to return their ballot for them. The GOP calls the practice “ballot harvesting” and blames it for losses to the Democrats in OC and other places in 2018.
But state officials clarified that using an unauthorized vote-by-mail drop box would not meet the requirements of the 2016 law. No designated “person” would be signing for the ballots as required by state law.
So long as the law is followed, there's no problem with that.
I was commenting on some divas here that apparently equated it with voter fraud somehow
I know.
I just wanted to underscore that there's nothing nefarious about ballot harvesting. There's no good reason for it to be a wedge issue, imho.
committing election fraud to pwn the libs
In late night decision, appeals court says Texas can limit mail ballot drop-off sites
U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals says Abbott’s Oct. 1 order
“abridged no one’s right to vote”
https://www.dallasnews.com/news/poli...drop-off-sites
bag Abbott gets a huge assist from the bag Repug 5th circuit ( Priscilla Owen! ) so voters in hole Texas in a raging, mortal pandemic and bag Abbott closes 100s of polling site, must face an undue burden to exercise their "right" to vote
===================
Texas closes hundreds of polling sites, making it harder for minorities to vote
Guardian analysis finds that
places where black and Latino population is growing by the largest numbers
experienced the majority of closures and
could benefit Republicans "could" ?

I showed up at my local library branch at 08:15 to vote
parking lot full
Many cars parked in the grass on either side of highway
the line was a few 100 ft long
I'll try later.

It's not going to get any better, I'd show up early tomorrow morning and stick it out if I were you. Abbott is throwing everything he's got at voter suppression this year knowing that if the Dems take control of just 1 state house, the next 10 years won't have the partisan gerrymandering Texas has enjoyed for decades.
When I early voted in Texas in 2018, it was literally walking into the Downtown Dallas Courthouse, showing my driver's license, walking over to a booth and voting. The process took <15 minutes. If there are early voting lines that long this year it means there's either record turnout that we've never seen before in Texas or it means Abbott has shut a lot of polling sites down since 2018.
I'd expect some desperate lame duck session maneuvering to give more power to the Governor if that happens.
bag Abbott has closed 100s of voting sites
GOP voter suppression gets more creative by the day
Florida had a last day "glitch" too.
To be fair DeathSantis extended registration to the next day, that seemed like a genuine mistake.
ehh. virginia governor and secretary of state are democrat
