Wasn't talking about Tatum getting 50 tbh. Meant that it happens so often these days it's lost its zeal. Feels like every week someone is dropping 50.
A decent article about why there are so many more 50 point games and often so by otherwise no names:

    https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/e...n-ever-before/

And we thought it’s because of these superior players in today’s nba somehow being able to have these scoring outbursts despite these newly discovered defensive schemes for a 100 year old game.

“ Whereas 50 points in a single game was once the ultimate mark of an elite scorer, ”

Sleepy Floyd had a 51 pt game in the playoffs vs the mighty Lakers

Willie Burton had a 53 pt game in the 90s

    Stopped reading right there

    Elite scorers indeed

That blows. I really like the Nuggets and was hoping for miracle that they could get out of the West.

dont forget the unstoppable tony delk, or the unguardable tracy murray, both doing it during the supposedly most elite defensive and physical era, with a slowed pace and the handchecking rule that made it utterly impossible for guards and wings to score unless you were michael jordan

It happens once in a while. Good you found two cases in 50 years. Now you have two cases every year.

4 actually and there are others

Of course it happens more frequently now because they make more 3s and the offensive schemes are better duh

I’m sure there are more just not as frequent as now based on the article.

Supposedly the defensive schemes are better as well but we don’t really see any indication of that. If the improvement in offensive schemes are greater than those in defensive schemes then we can reason big time scorers will have that much easier a time scoring in today’s nba than yesterday’s nba.

Wardell Curry with 53 on 18 three attempts. Today's NBA is so ridiculous.

It's kinda like watching a playstation game with the settings on easy.

When D'Antoni had his run and gun with the Suns, I honestly thought it was more of a fad that would never last. Boy was I wrong

but but but that still required skill from jordan, while it doesnt take much skill to stop on a dime and splash 30 foot threes off the dribble. if mike wanted to he could have learned how to do it from 50 feet and averaged 70ppg, because he was so compe ive.

Most of these dudes are actually overrated defenders or midgets
    And Rodman was a PF
McDaniel was never assigned on Jordon
Derek Harper couldn’t play a lick of D without hand checking, which he was regularly called for by the refs

Lebron would have dropped 70 ppg on those clowns

    Did someone say revisionist?

Rodman came in a SF who guarded everybody.

No midgets on the list unless you are talking about 6'4 Kidd, who at 38 was busy shutting down prime Lebron in the 2011 Finals

kidd didn't singlehandedly shut down lebron at all. he played his defensive role incredibly well, but the heats inability to shoot the three was probably the biggest defense against lebron because the mavs literally focused all their defensive help attention on him while basically leaving bosh and wade on islands to keep lebron contained. watch that video closely, virtually every play lebron easily gets a step on kidd, and is met consistently by 2 other defenders, sometimes even 3 help defenders, all of whom were already sagging massively into the paint as was because no one was guarding out to the 3point line bc they simply didn't fear the 3pt shot from miami.
