You do know that there are pro-choice Repubs - just as there are pro-life Dems. Catholics and (Evangelical Christians who are pre-dominantly repubs) believe that life begins at conception. Republicans who vote so for other reasons e.g. NRA members are not necessarily pro-life.
Oh, he's definitely there to siphon votes from Joe. Most of his registrations as a candidate were done by GOP lawyers.

They believe that because Republicans needed them to believe that when abortion became a key platform for Reagan Republicans like Phylis Schlafly in the '70s. There is no scriptural precedent for life beginning at conception. Furthermore, many "pro-life" Christians are just fine with IVF, a procedure that often results in conceived embryos being thrown in the trash.
