The counter point is that once people are seated in a restaurant and eating, nobody is wearing their masks, so there is still risk of transmission, even if you require masks on entry.

As someone already pointed out, the best way to stop the virus from spreading in restaurants is to limit indoor seating, maximize outdoor seating, and provide adequate ventilation. Good luck doing that in the winter...

I ate at Texas Road House about 10 days ago. Place was PACKED. Every table was full. I wasn't surprised to learn they were issued a citation by the city.

Exactly. Are you claiming that pathogens don't contaminate used masks? That's what's at issue here.
No one but you would wear a pathogen contaminated mask.

    Everyone else wears clean masks.

And you wash or dispose of them after use.

    derp folds

    now fold on this:

If a single virus is in the fabric of a mask of one person, can that virus travel through the air to infect another person?

    Yes or no.
Credentials matter until they don't. You did fold.

Do you take your used menstrual pads into restaurants?

    Yes or no.

Yeah, it was mediocre at best. Still, I wasn't concerned about "deadly" China flu, since already had it.

    You beat it.
So if everyone just tries hard enough they can too?
If we had a vaccine all the businesses could be full, not just the mediocre ones.

Or that pesky herd immunity through massive infection.

    Wasn't much to beat, tbh.

I'm no longer part of the transmission chain (nor my family). See how that works?

Hope you're right about that. It's my impression that it's not yet well understood how long immunity lasts post-infection.

Yeah I have some older friends go that route... worked out very poorly for some of them.
So good for you with the milder symptoms and zero after effects.
Dad still is clean and I’ll be damned if I pass it to him or my wife’s parents.

So you think I should attempt to get infected with the idea I will be fine because I believe I will. Just spend a few weeks away from everyone else after infection and I’m good to go? I’m in a lower risk group and have never gotten the flu, or, it’s been very, very mild. Sniffles.

Personally based on what I have read the a rare exception (the immunity subsidies quickly)
Btw, this does happen on a small scale with other viruses.(Get them twice in succession)
Some like tetanus, that do not mutate in significant ways, do require boosters.

The flu is a big mutater , so every year most likely a different vaccine.

"LONDON — Antibodies against the coronavirus fell as people recovered from Covid-19, according to the findings of a major U.K. study, potentially dealing a blow to those pushing for so-called herd immunity.

Researchers from Imperial College London screened 365,000 people in England over three rounds of testing between June 20 and Sept. 28...."
