As Twitter labeled tweet after tweet from President Donald Trump in recent days, some conservatives decided they'd had enough.
"TRUMP NEEDS TO GET ACTIVE ON PARLER, THEY WONT CENSOR HIM THERE," one user wrote.
"So long Twitter friends~exiting all big techs & switching to PARLER!" wrote another.
And there were plenty more. Distrust of the major social media platforms among some Trump supporters came to a boil around the election as Twitter and Facebook — already the targets of complaints about liberal bias — began to take swift and severe action on election-related misinformation. More than a few Republican politicians echoed the sentiments.

Friendly neighborhood tech nerd here. If there are any of my friends who are considering Parler, I'd like to share a couple of thoughts. The platform has never released a list of its owners and is not actively seeking VC investment, despite having no revenue model and an active staff of 30. Estimate it costs $1-$2 million per month to operate, which is being paid for by someone.
The verification process (to make sure you are not a troll) requires an upload of the front and back of your DL. That creates a pretty healthy honeypot for hackers as such credentials are useful for iden y theft. Also, since a large number of Parler users seem to be trending to violent rhetoric, it attaches their calls for violence or other potential evidence to their verified account and DL.
Finally, while we don't know who owns it, or who is funding it, one of the largest user groups prior to October was loyalists to the Saudi Crown Prince. This suggests that funding is likely foreign en y driven. My support for global economics aside, it seems like a combination that does not mesh with the beliefs of the people joining and continues a trend line of technology-enabled US political influence by foreign groups or intelligence services.
Make your own decisions. But get the facts on the platform.
