AOC for the trigger memes.
Seriously though, anyone else would do at this point.
Who do you think it will be?
AOC for the trigger memes.
Seriously though, anyone else would do at this point.
Unless OP knows something we don't about Pelosi not being speaker in 2021, this convo is premature. She'll be speaker for this cycle but then in 2022 they'll lose the house due to poor midterm turnout as well as new and innovative GOP gerrymandering. It'll be 2026 at the earliest until we have this conversation.
People want to live in progressive nations but conservative neighborhoods.
It'll probably be Hakeem Jeffries though whenever Pelosi is replaced as speaker.
He's a Joe Crowley disciple so the DNC establishment can trust him to on progressives and AOC while prioritizing the status quo Dem political machine over helping poor people. He's also well-spoken and black, so it'll be that much tougher for progressives to convince people he's a corporate centrist.
Cool story. Keep repeating your stupid catchphrase and maybe it'll become true.
Dude, progressives make for good congressmen/senators and to serve as a check on the leadership but they're not equipped to actually lead.
They're too blinded by their own ideologies.
Trump is why we have actual nutcases in congress now. QAnons and the types.
Lebron chooses to live with old white people.
lmao, that's why Dear Loser was begging suburban women to vote for him?
You live in California, right? Seems strange that you think others want to live in a conservative neighborhood when you probably don't.
I'd much rather live in San Francisco or Washington DC than West Virginia or Mississippi though.
Far right: "The Jews will not replace us! QAnon is real!"
Far left: "We need universal healthcare and climate change reform."
Centrists (i.e. like the post I'm replying to): "We need to get both of these extremes out of politics!"
By then Democratic Party membership might be illegal.
The problem is they muddle their own talking points and policies with stuff like defund the police and oh btw I'm a super duper socialist.
I have no idea why AOC gave herself that label. Like why?
My mayor is Republican. For example this city prioritizes law enforcement within a state that just gave voting rights to felons and rejected toughening sentences in criminal cases.
Assuming we are talking middle class, I rather live and raise a family in the after mentioned. Hence why there is anger in DC from the black community that white 20-30 yr olds enjoy the city and then run off with their tax dollars to the suburbs when it is time to set roots.
There's literally one congresswoman who's for defunding the police, and no I'm not saying Cori Bush should be speaker. All I was saying is that a complete establishment pros ute who actively works to defeat progressive policies shouldn't be speaker. I consider people like Sherrod Brown and Stacey Abrams "progressives" (Sherrod Brown calls himself a progressive for that matter), are you saying they'd be bad speakers?
Regarding "defund the police" - when did AOC ever say she wanted to defund the police? This is a narrative the establishment Dems are running with to try and discredit and hurt a progressive movement that's growing. Defund the police is a fringe idea that really doesn't have any support beyond BLM protesters. AOC is handling it horribly by running her mouth on twitter but the ultimate issue is messaging more than anything else, which the establishment Dems are just as bad at if not even worse at than progressives are. Dems have been awful on messaging as long as I've been old enough to follow politics, and that was long before the emergence of AOC + 3.
I'm not sure where you're going with senators becoming house speakers. Is that even possible?
I consider the two you mentioned progressive senators as well but they're not as obtuse as...say Bernie Sanders when it comes to policy making and knowing when to fold them. I hate that whenever Warren agrees with a common sense policy or even with a moderate member of congress she's suddenly a sellout or a fake according to some.
AOC is known for taking extreme positions. I dont recall her calling for defunding the police outright but she's not out there calling against it either. If you remember she was also for abolishing ICE.
I lean to liking AOC most of the time but much like Beto in the heat of the moment they go full re .
Call me crazy, but having a California elitist who’s worth $120 million as the face of Democrats in Congress might be contributing to the messaging issue. I know it makes a lot more sense to blame a saying that’s <1 year old for a messaging problem Democrats have had for decades, but it could be that voters in middle America don’t see how Nancy Pelosi is someone they feel inclined to empower with down ballot Dem votes.
Agreed.
You have been pathetic as of late.
I was giving examples of people I view as progressive. He couldn’t be speaker. I never said pick someone like Sanders or AOC, but it should be someone who’s focused on working class issues, not a Joe Crowley disciple who’s beholden to the NY political machine. It should also be someone from a state other than NY and CA, it’s beyond ing stupid how much Democrats lean into conservative talking points by stacking their leadership positions with people from CA/the northeast. Candidates like Cunningham/Greenfield would have had a much easier time if their opponent wasn’t able to say “a vote for X is a vote for le happy Schumer as majority leader!”
ICE is an agency that didn’t exist prior to 9/11, it’s <20 years old. Police have existed in one form or another for thousands of years. I don’t agree with abolishing ICE just because it’s unwise politically, but that’s nowhere near comparable to defund the police in terms of extremism. America did just fine without ICE.
It shouldn’t be AOC’s responsibility to speak out against every single extreme idea she doesn’t support. The fact you think it is shows why Republican messaging is so effective.
Wrong.
She makes it her business to speak on those re ed ideas, and thus why she has to constantly explain why she's for x and x positions.
A rule of thumb, if you have to explain something more than once, then you have already lost.
As far as the Iowa senate race goes, I called how the dumb farmers were not going to care about Ernts ty debate performance. They're too entrenched and it doesn't even have to do with messaging at that point.
What re ed ideas? You just admitted you can’t recall that she ever said she was for defunding the police.
Youre convinced of this narrative about how “extreme” AOC is because you hear it but you can’t articulate a reason beyond the fact she calls herself a socialist.
If Trump has to explicitly disavow white supremacy, AOC should have no problem explaining her stance on "defunding."
