It's much more difficult than usual to predict the timing of events during the NBA's free agency period. In this post-pandemic scape, the offseason has been miniaturized so there's a lot going on at the same time. However, although teams will understandably be in a rush, the NBA insists that they will enforce tampering rules more than ever -- which could cause teams to obey or, more likely, delay their announcements of completed signings and trades.

That said, here's a basic outline of what to expect -- and how it will impact the Spurs.

Nov. 20 @ 5 p.m. CT: Free agent negotiations can begin. My guess is agreements will be announced minutes later but, again, that could be delayed. Around this time, the Spurs could announce the re-signing of any of their free agents (even though it wouldn't be official). If, gulp, Forbes or Belinelli are coming back, there's a chance we'd hear about it around this time.

Nov. 20 @ 11:01 p.m. CT: Restricted free agents can sign offersheets with other teams. If Jakob Poeltl is going to sign a big offersheet, this is when we'd hear about it, most likely. A team looking to steal Poeltl would give him a front-loaded contract at 11:01 to make it as difficult as possible for the Spurs to match it. Perhaps that could get delayed by a day or so but I'd be surprised if it's delayed more than that.

This is also the time the Spurs could agree to terms with Devin Vassell and Tre Jones (unless the Spurs are going to use part of the MLE on Jones, which they couldn't do this until a day later, AFAIK).

Nov. 21 @ 11:01 p.m. CT: Teams can start officially signing unrestricted free agents. Trades can officially take place. This is also when Derrick White will become eligible for an extension, although I expect that the talks won't heat up until near the Dec. 21 deadline.

Usually more than 30 hours of moratorium time. Everything is super condensed this year.

Thanks for the recap of above!

There wasn't a rush of announcement at 5:01 so it's safe to say teams are listening to those tampering warnings

Looks like Boston is going to get Myles Turner at the very least for Hayward. Looks like talks are hung up right now because BOS wants Dipo or Warren included and Indy is only offering McDermott.

$9 million? Good news for Poeltl's accountant.

Then again, Leonard can shoot threes so that helps his value quite a bit.

I wouldn’t read anything into these Heat deals. They’re all one year contracts with team options in year 2. Not sure what option dates are, but let’s them have huge cap space next summer and see how things play out.

Pop's probably trying to get clearance for a parade/event like the Heat did for Bron & Bosh.

I guess that's good news for Forbes. A team that wanted Harris would probably also have Forbes on their list

Guess the Spurs needed time to allow Pop to fluff Forbes before he bends the organization over.

See above, it doesn’t. It’s a one year, $9-$10mm deal for all intents and purposes. Heat were going to lose him for nothing and not have space to replace him (given keeping Dragic), so it literally didn’t matter how much he made. In fact, may have had to pay him a premium to get him to give a team option.

Yeah, I'd be willing to give Poeltl whatever the max is the Spurs can pay him ... if it's a one-year deal.
