Macy's criticized for calling Black sorority a 'diverse dance group' during Thanksgiving Day Parade
The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade marched on Thursday with many performances despite the coronavirus pandemic, but it was not without some controversy.
Macy's faced backlash across social media for its "reductive description" of Zeta Phi Beta after referring to the historically Black sorority's steppers as a "diverse dance group."
"What's that sound, you ask? Why it's the diverse dance group, Zeta Phi Beta Steppers!" Macy's said in the ill-advised tweet that appears to have since been deleted. "Performing a special routine they put together to help us celebrate this unprecedented year."
MSNBC's "The ReidOut" host Joy Reid responded, "Um... hey Macys that’s not a 'dance group.' Zeta Phi Beta is a Black sorority founded at Howard U in 1920 and part of the Divine Nine."
The Divine Nine, is an organization of nine Black sororities and fraternities, including Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, that compose the National Pan- enic Council.
Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, an Alpha Kappa Alpha, is notably a Divine Nine member.

Thanksgiving TV is exhausting, tbh.
"Diverse" has become a synonym for non-white. Used thus, I don't like it.
So hundred percent big corp "controversy".
pretty much
So will I, I just don't like it.
(Don't get me started on "grow" as a transitive verb or "impactful" as a synonym of "important" or "impressive.")
same with "urban", as Black, crime-infested ghetto
Your ideology pushed for the use of diversity. With lying slogans such as "Diversity is our strength" which I even noticed at a local school here.
Nothing wrong with diversity. Except when it's misused.
Different word, different part of speech.
