What DeSantis really means is that he doesn't want certain *ugly parts* of US history like slavery, Reconstruction, Jim Crow, 20th century race riots and civil rights (i.e., voting rights and legal equality for non-whites) and modern day racism taught in Florida schools.

He's allergic to US history and wants to subs ute a fairy tale so that his tender self-esteem won't be damaged.
