a collection of academic theories to describe our understanding of racial inequality, and doing so by analyzing power structures (ie who makes the laws)... or that racial discrepancies in social standing exist as a result of societal constructs as opposed to being primarily attributed to individual choice (or obviously genetics)

critical theory generically views, analyzes, and interprets society through the lens of power structures. critical race theory is just the racialized version of that.
