IT Recruiting Matters: 6 four-stars committed, Texas trending for several others

It is officially #AllGasNoBrakes on the recruiting trail for Stave Sarkisian and staff. The Longhorns have added three four-star prospects in the last six days with top receiver target Evan Stewart jumping in Thursday night well past many bed times.

In Stewart, the Longhorns won a “must get” recruitment, and a prospect that I predict will end up a five-star — for those that salivate over the fifth star.

What is next for the Longhorns? Well, a key target has a birthday coming up in early April, but it’s unlikely he will be the next to commit with the momentum building in Austin.

Where the class is at with speed freak Stewart in the fold:
    QB Maalik Murphy, 6-5, 225
Four-star signal caller is putting in work as one of the leaders of the class. Murphy, Blue and now Stewart are three strong voices to build momentum.

    WR Evan Stewart, 6-0, 175
This was one of the “must get” prospects in the 2022 cycle. No way around it. Special athlete with WR hands and ball skills. Sarkisian and staff were in the lead for weeks, and now have one of the most electric athletes in the country on the commit list.

    RB Jaydon Blue, 5-11, 205
Blue gave the class an ascending shot of momentum when he committed out of nowhere (and no I wasn’t going to say out of the Blue). This verbal resonated with a number of Texas targets, and has certainly helped with the Longhorns' efforts with Kelvin Banks and Kam Dewberry to slow down the Aggie momentum in H-Town. Keep watching for those Blue's Clues.

    WR Armani Winfield, 6-2, 180
The Lewisville run-and-catch receiver prospect was the first verbal for Steve Sarkisian and staff at Texas, and continues to be a voice in DFW. Pairing Winfield with plenty of speed in the class is key.

    LB Trevell Johnson, 6-1, 200
Bottom line, Texas has to win in DFW in the 2022 cycle. Way too much high end talent in the Metroplex in the class and beyond, and the staff was constructed with this in mind with Jeff Banks being the recruiting bell-cow in Austin. The staff had to close out the leans, and did just that getting Johnson in the fold quickly.

    CB/N Jaylon Guilbeau, 6-0, 180
A new staff never wants to lose momentum out of the gate, and keeping the Golden Triangle defensive back in the class with TCU charging along with others matters. Texas needs to sign a 5-6 member defensive back class, and keeping a four-star in the fold was needed.

Raise your hand if you have pitched washers:
If you have pitched washers, you know where I’m going with this. The Texas staff has to knock those leaners in and maximize the class. After last nights verbal, that means the staff is on track in accomplishing that task with Stewart and Johnson having committed in the last week.

    CB/N Bryce Anderson, 5-11, 185
Along with Terrance Brooks, one of the most versatile prospects in the state. Texas has come out of nowhere behind the work of Terry Joseph to overtake Texas A&M with Blake Gideon, Michael Huff and the entire Texas staff putting in great work. This would be a continued big momentum building victory in a few weeks.

    DT Kristopher Ross, 6-3, 265
Bo Davis is strong at North Shore. With offers from Texas, Oklahoma and LSU… anyone still questioning if IT was right in calling Ross a four-star prospect when he only had an offer from UTSA can take a seat in the corner. Decision slated for late March. Decision positive barring a family connection to USC/Los Angeles pulling the rug out from under Texas. That would be quite the Hussle.

    OT Kelvin Banks, 6-5, 300
Banks began the recruiting process with Texas as the favorite. The Longhorns slipped behind LSU and Texas A&M this season, but are now trending once again. This is a recruitment the staff needs the premium position prospect to “come back home.”

    S Landon Hullaby, 6-0, 185
Texas should be able to close this recruitment out on a timeline within the next few weeks. Having Terry Joseph as the recruiter after offering while at Notre Dame doesn’t hurt here.

    OG Connor Robertson, 6-4, 295
Texas should absolutely win this recruitment. The offers have started pouring in, as expected for the guard prospect with a very good frame and the desired foot and body quickness.

    OG Devon Campbell, 6-3, 305
Texas is all in with Jeff Banks and Kyle Flood bringing the tag team recruitment over from Tuscaloosa. Speaking to a source extremely close to Campbell Thursday, the big time OG is in communication with Texas much more than any other program.

    CB Denver Harris, 6-0, 180
Texas is positioned nicely here, but could play out for a while — even potentially to December/January. If the Longhorns keep building momentum in March and April, could the timeline speed up?

    RB Jamarion Miller, 5-10, 185
If Texas pushes for Miller, this recruitment is over by April.

Win some tough recruitments without having a considerable lead:
    WR Brenen Thompson, 5-10, 170
Thompson and his 10.2 speed remain a top priority for the Texas staff. At least one person in Thompson’s circle continues to like the idea of Texas. If Thompson joins Evan Stewart in the class, watch out.

    CB/N Terrance Brooks, 5-11, 185
Texas was once the leader, but now Alabama and Texas A&M are all in. Notre Dame and Stanford are also a factor. This will be a battle, but one worth the fight for the future NFL DB.

    OT Neto Umeozulu, 6-5, 300
Texas signs the best prospect out of Allen High in the 2022 class. If that is your prediction, that’s a terrific early bet. With the compe ion being Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas A&M and others… this will be a fun one to follow. Ohio State is also in the hunt here.

    OG/T Kam Dewberry, 6-4, 315
This is a recruitment Texas could win. Dewberry had Texas at the top or very near the top of his recruitment prior to the offers pouring in. This one will not be easy, but is worth the Banks/Flood tag team effort. This is a recruitment where momentum certainly matters.

    WR Chris Marshall, 6-3, 195
Texas needs to hang around the rim here and be in position to dunk the ball if the opportunity is presented. Texas A&M, LSU and others will certainly be hanging around the same rim. A rare run-and-catch, and catch-and-run receiver at 6-3, 195.

    WR Kevin Coleman, 5-11, 170
This is a recruitment Texas could potentially win against about every top program nationally. With that being said, Alabama covets Coleman.

    S Bryan Allen Jr., 6-0, 190
This instinctive safety is an old school Oklahoma vs. Texas battle with Texas A&M having dropped off a little. Could building momentum by Texas win out here? Beating out Oklahoma here would be where a class really ascends.

    DB Jarred Kerr, 6-0, 185
The quicker the Texas DB class begins filling up, the easier for compe ion such as Oklahoma and Texas A&M to beat Texas. The Sooners are doing well here.

    TE Jason Llewellyn, 6-5, 242
TCU vs. Texas barring the unforeseen here. Grew up at TCU football games, but has family connections to Texas as well. Oklahoma is the sleeper.

    Pull an upset or three:
    QB Quinn Ewers, 6-3, 210
Despite the verbal of Murphy, Texas should absolutely keep the door open for one of the nation's premier quarterbacks and prospects.

    DT Bear Alexander, 6-4, 315
Despite the Georgia early close, Texas absolutely will keep battling. Bo Davis and Jeff banks won't just throw in the towel.

    DT Jaray Bledsoe, 6-4, 270
Texas A&M should win this recruitment. Don’t tell Bo Davis that, who has become popular with Bledsoe and family. Oklahoma, Texas and Alabama have a legit shot per a source close to Bledsoe earlier this week.

DEs Ernest Cooper IV, Omari Abor, or D.J. Wesolak
Key here is to win one of these tough recruitments working from behind. Texas is running a closer second to Stanford for Cooper IV, and in the top three or four for Abor and Wesolak.

    RB Trevonte’ Citizen, 6-0, 215 or Le’veon Moss, 6-0, 195
If Texas wants a bigger back to fill out a two RB class, the staff will have to battle in the Pelican State. Citizen is a back that Stan Drayton really covets.

LB’s Niuafe Tuihalamaka, Harold Perkins, Kip Lewis or Ish Harris
Like defensive end, the staff needs to work all four recruitments and win one from behind.

    OT’s Jacob Sexton, Malik Agbo
Maybe Sexton could end up the 2022 class version of Bryan Pickryl, but the staff won’t know unless they keep plugging away.

Fong just CB'd Phaizon Wilson to Texas. I don't think he was ever re-offered, but could be wrong.

Wiltfong has himself out on a limb on that call
Most think he is not a take for us

I remember him being a high flying ball catcher. Not every take for wr needs to be a speed guy...

IT saying he isn't a take nor is he able to commit due to his head coach having a job here, now. Nevermind, prolly trolling us
