Texas spent another 22,000 hours hunting for 'election fraud' and didn't find a damn thing

The Houston Chronicle is reporting the latest numbers from Paxton's aggressive search for "voter fraud" in the state, and

the numbers are about what you'd expect for an indicted ultrapartisan casting lines everywhere in search of justifications for his party's attacks on voting rights.

Paxton's office logged "more than 22,000 staff hours" working on voter fraud cases in the last year,

roughly doubling both the law enforcement officers and prosecutors already assigned
to those cases. All 22,000 hours were paid for by Texas voters.

Sixteen cases. The team closed out 16 cases, all of them for Houston-area residents who

wrote "false addresses" on voter registration forms.

None of the 16 went to jail for it. That's in keeping with his department's long-term record,

which has never found any organized fraud

of the sort Paxton continues to insist exists somewhere, just beyond our visible realms.

Abbott's disaster declaration along Texas border receives backlash

Abbott issued a disaster declaration in response to what he is calling a border crisis due to the "ongoing influx of unlawful immigrants."

The order authorizes all available state resources to assist state and local law enforcement to protect Texans from property damage, trespassing, smuggling, and human trafficking.

The Governor directed the Texas Health and Human Services Commission to take all necessary steps to

discontinue state licensure of any child care facility under a contract with the federal government that shelters or detains unlawful immigrants.

Abbott directed the Texas Commission on Jail Standards and the Texas Commission to work with Texas counties to request any necessary waivers in order

to give counties the flexibility needed to establish alternative detention facilities or otherwise add or expand capacity.

"cynical political move" that will keep vulnerable kids locked in border jails.

He said Abbott's intentionally sabotaging the system for resettling unaccompanied children.

Cuellar, a Laredo Democrat, told KXAN he doesn't support Abbott's labeling of the situation at the border as a "disaster."

"This is a state version of [former President Donald Trump] declaring a border emergency. I disagree with that."

Hidalgo County Judge Richard Cortez ... says that

local law enforcement had not reported a level of criminal activity that would require a disaster proclamation.

I have repeatedly suggested to our federal government to address comprehensive immigration reform will be blocked by Repugs

Abbott's order is an attempt to distract from "his failure of leadership," adding his "political stunts" are the real threats to Texans.

Once a slave state, always a slave state

    Texas Creates ‘1836 Project’

    to Promote ‘Patriotic Education’

    and ‘Christian Heritage’

Abbott signed legislation Monday establishing the “1836 Project,” an advisory committee that he said will promote “patriotic education” and

ensure that future generations understand Texas values. which are?

The legislation requires the project to promote the state’s “Christian heritage.” kill the Catholic Mexicans

a “flurry” of proposed measures in Texas that would amount to

“some of the most aggressive efforts to control the teaching of American history”

as “nearly a dozen other Republican-led states seek to

ban or limit how the role of slavery and pervasive effects of racism can be taught.”

the 1836 Project will initially focus on parks, museums, and landmarks,

but some teachers are concerned about the impact it will eventually have on curriculum and classroom teaching.

“To keep Texas the best state in the United States of America,

we must never forget why Texas became so exceptional in the first place,”

the state’s history of encouraging settlement by slave owners

    and

its decision to secede from the Union in response to northern states’ hostility to the

“beneficent and patriarchal system of African slavery.”

Big rig lawsuit bill awaits Gov. Abbott’s signature

Legislation imposes limits on what can be brought up during trials

a bill that would change how certain cases involving 18-wheelers and other commercial vehicles are tried in Texas.

Supporters said the legislation is necessary because

the number of lawsuits involving big rigs, and damages from those suits,

have created a treacherous legal environment for commercial vehicle owners. how about big rig dead victims?

The legislation requires trials involving crashes with 18-wheelers or other commercial vehicles to be split similarly to criminal trials in Texas.

A company would have to be found negligent in a crash in the first phase

before the case would proceed to a second phase.

If a safety violation is a factor in a crash, it can be addressed in the first phase.

Otherwise, a company’s overall safety record could only be brought up in that second phase, where punitive damages would be decided.

“The overall version of this bill still makes our roads more dangerous,”

if these companies really want to drive down insurance prices, let’s work with them on that.

We want safer roads, and we can actually guarantee that safer roads will bring down insurance costs.”

Sounds like the TX medical tort reform so doctors/insurance companies would pay less when docs screw up patients

California attracts people from all over the world, Texas doesn’t. Texas has no appeal for a lot of europeans as it is seen as this flat, hot place with a lot of gun happy, churchgoers people with nothing to do.

Just waiting for all the babyboomers to die and Florida will turn blue especially by adding more immigrants. Eventually, Texas will turn blue too with all the Californians moving there and the immigrants. That's your fate buddy

    Canceled slavery-Alamo discussion:

    Forget Dan Patrick’s fact-free tweet

There is good news and bad news in Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick’s blocking Thursday of an online panel co-hosted by the Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin on Forget the Alamo, a book that thoroughly debunks large chunks of the Alamo myth.

The good news is that it sent sales of the book soaring.

Before Patrick’s action and the publicity it provoked, the book, which came out a month ago, was ranked in the mid-500s on the Amazon sales chart — a respectable but not spectacular position. Patrick, a publisher’s dream, drew national publicity that sent it soaring to as high as No. 17 over the weekend.

Sunday it was listed No. 1 in Amazon’s U.S. History category,

More importantly, though, Patrick’s “cancellation” just hours before the event’s scheduled start will lead to significantly broader exposure of the book’s thesis.

Those who had registered for the event lost the opportunity to hear the authors.

But magnitudes more will have read the book, thanks to Patrick, and many will recommend it and pass it on to friends and relatives.
