ERCOT Hires Interim CEO And President As Major Grid Reforms Stall In Legislature
some of the biggest threats to the grid’s stability are outside of ERCOT’s control.
ERCOT doesn’t have the power to mandate major changes.
That’s the job of the Public Utility Commission (PUC),
which oversees ERCOT and regulates the grid, as well as the Railroad Commission, which regulates the natural gas sector.
The Texas legislature oversees all of the organizations, and its efforts to mandate weatherization have stalled.

Texas Policymakers Split On Electricity Repricing, Natural Gas Reforms In Aftermath Of Winter Storm

natural gas reforms.

Texas lege shuffling its feet
https://www.houstonchronicle.com/opi...a-16142310.phpThe people of Texas expect us in the Legislature to act to harden our energy infrastructure, and HB 14 will not accomplish that. We should have acted in 2011. In 10 years, let’s not say the same thing about Winter Storm Uri when another freeze hits.
We can expect that AGW will again cause the polar vortex to collapse and spill, again, hyper cold air down to Texas.
wealth-sucking Capitalists, +$28B after deregulation, who own the electricity grid don't ing care. They made $Bs off URI disaster.

Texas House advances plan to subsidize power plant weatherization
Texans paid $28B more for electricity after deregulation, and now taxpayers have to pay to make the electricity network reliable?
Socialize the risk, privatize the profits.

CPS Energy to propose 'provisional rate increase' due in part to winter storm, pandemic
It would be the first rate hike since 2014.
The proposal includes an estimated 4-4.5% increase to maintain operations and support growth and
an estimated 1-2% to make up for unrecovered costs during the coronavirus pandemic.
Also included is a proposed 1.5-3% increase to pay for costs incurred during February Storm Uri.
CPS Energy estimates the average impact for customers over the next year ranges between $9.70 and $14.60.
While the pandemic-related increase is projected to last up to five years, the increase due to the winter storm could remain in effect for up to 25 years.

Texas at ‘Elevated Risk' of Summer Power Shortages, Potential Outages, Regulators Warn Texas is expected to see above-normal temperatures this summer and a higher risk of drought across much of the state, potentially increasing demand for power and putting more strain on the grid.
I can't find whether the bag TX legislature did anything about PUC/ERCOT.
If not, PUC/ERCOT is not on Patrick's menu of red meat he wants to throw at the rubes in the requested special session
