Watching the G-League Day 2 scrimmage, Team 4 vs. Team 1 - One guy who looks perfect as a G-League project is Dawson Garcia.

Had a productive first day and looks good here also. 6' 11" with wing skills. Average athlete atm but has decent touch, solid feel for the game.

    https://rollcallsportsnet.com/dawson...couting-report

Edit: Some scouting from the Stepien...Interesting read. He had a subpar college season, this was written prior to that. Seeing some of those skills here.

    Dawson Garcia – Marquette – 9/20/2001
There’s not a ton of tape on Garcia out there but his skillset and size are enough to make him an NBA prospect. A really good 3-point shooter at 6’10, Garcia off of that alone is somebody to monitor. What could separate him is his ability to put it on the floor and attack closeouts, along with play in ISO situations against other bigs. There’s also already enticing off-movement flashes as a shooter. To be frank, he looks like an elite shooting prospect when you factor in size.
If Garcia can show himself to be a good enough defender, there’s a chance he could be the best offensive big in the class and that could put him in mid-first round discussion, if not higher. It’s a TBD how he’ll look against high major physicality and athleticism but the talent is clear as day.

Franz, Giddey see big rise in latest update to tankathons mock draft.

    Jalen dropped a lot.

Don’t put too much stock in mock drafts, but they’re always interesting

I wouldn't be disappointed in that outcome...

It is insane how wide Moody’s torso is. Dude looks like a wrestler compared to the other guys. Basically Big Body 2.0. His wingspan compensates for his lack of height too. Can plug him in at any position, IMO.

Does his wingpan compensate for his lack of height?

Wingspan = width of torso + 2*Arm Length
Standing Reach = Shoulder height + Arm Length

His torso is, as you mention, crazy wide. That means less arm length for the wingspan. Which means less compensation for the height...

Maybe compensate was the wrong word. What I mean is stopping opposing players who are tall or lengthy via movement laterally, and if he’s got the strength, they won’t be able to back him down. The lack of height will hurt as far as being less likely to make them miss, but if he can slow them down movement-wise, there’s defensive potential there to unlock.

I prefer player with star potential at 12, so any of Moody, Keon, Bouknight, Wagner, Giddey(tall Steve Nash minus the shooting). I’d be happy.

If Charles Bassey goes undrafted, I hope he enjoyed his time in San Antonio in HS and wants to come back. I'd like us to take him in the 2nd.

10 years ago, he’d have been a midfirst rounder, but his game is pre 2015 rules changes.

Yeah I think you would have to.

Effusive praise given to Sengun at 4.

As I noted a few months ago, Sengun is the pearl of a strong international class, and he is still flying somewhat under the radar despite winning the MVP of the Turkish League. That league is probably the second-best in Europe right now after Spain’s, and the history says that when a teenager — Sengun turns 19 in July — crushes a good overseas league like that, the fail rate is basically nil.

There are legitimate concerns about Sengun defensively, that he might be the type of guy who gets run off the floor in a playoff series. Overall I would profile him as similar to Kevin Love – more of a “4.5” than a true five and somebody whose offense will need to make up for non-elite rim protection and mobility. Nonetheless, his offensive skill set is crazy good for a player this age. He has ball skills, passing ability, a good shooting stroke that projects to 3-point range and a dizzying array of spins, pivots and finishes on the low block.

I’ll be surprised if he isn’t able to rack up double-doubles relatively early in his career; it’s the defensive question in the modern game that keeps him out of my top three, and even then I still wonder if I have him too low. A lot of not-very-athletic bigs with average tools but advanced feel have ended up being far better defenders than initially projected – Marc Gasol obviously comes to mind for me – and Sengun could be another example. I wouldn’t just write him off at this end of the floor.
This was after I read this tweet from Fran Fraschilla the other day:

international play-ins and friendlies, along with the combines, will have a great impact on some of these mock drafts over the next month and a half. it'll be great to see how players impact their current standings.

He does not like Wagner, roleplayer ceiling, got bounced around in the tournament, range 15-30.

Didn’t work out, or even interview Kawhi. I think they went into lockdown mode after being punked with Batum and Gobert.

About Keldon, coach Cal said that five teams passed on drafting him because he didn’t work out for them. He was projected late lottery. You can only work out so many times, because you risk injury each time. Bet those teams feel really stupid right now.
they've gone into lockdown and have gotten linked by the Wizards two years in a row still.

Arkansas' Moses Moody measured 6'4.5 without shoes along with a 7'0.75 wingspan. (From Twitter)

Moody measuring a bit shorter than expected could affect his draft position. Hope he drops to the Spurs.
