Damn is Tankathon mock draft 2 days ago 100% accurate?
So which guard will the Spurs take this year at 12?
Damn is Tankathon mock draft 2 days ago 100% accurate?
My expectations with specific teams and who they're drafting...
99% sure Detroit will draft Cade
70% sure OKC will draft Sengun
60% sure Magic will draft someone long. Think Barnes, Kai Jones, Jalen Johnson
80% sure Warriors will draft someone ready to go. Think Bouknight, Wagner, Kispert. I'm sure they want to avoid having to deal with a raw rookie like Wiseman again.
80% sure Kings will draft someone with high character. Think Wagner, Scottie Barnes. I'm sure they want to avoid any more drama with players like they did with Bagley.
60% sure Hornets will draft a big. They said they needed a big in an article somewhere.
I'll guess we'll take Jalen Green in that wishful scenario.
man, too many players to keep up with
I know, right? Way too many Jalens!
No, but I think Moody, Wagner are the two most obvious choices if either is still available. And I suppose Kispert can't be ruled out. Giddey I don't see them valuing as high d/t his defensive and shooting woes. I'm focusing on second round players now. Getting burnt out on the first round. I started getting into this draft way too early. Lol.
I forgot another:
80% sure Pelicans will draft a shooter.
Good stuff.
Random thoughts:
Draft Lottery -
- Pumped for Detroit. Having Cade and Killian together in the backcourt can only hope push both forward as their careers develop.
Team has seemingly recovered quickly after the Stan Van Gundy administration.
- Raptors getting into 4 changes things dramatically. They drafted 2 PGs last year, think they will take Green or Kuminga now.
Lots of lengthy wings, if Kuminga is the pick - Siakam may very well be moved before the season.
- Spurs seem to be looking at addressing the shooting deficit in the 2nd round or Undrafted FA.
Would that mean they are potentially looking at bigs at #12?
Sengun, Jones, Jackson perhaps?
Combine -
- J.T Thor must be playing in flats. Everybody gains a foot or more in their shoes and this guy gains 1/2 an inch?
Come on man.
- Shariffe Cooper can't be 6"3'. Don't buy that at all.
Well, that's out of the way. Happy for the Pistons.
I'm guessing there could be some heavy activity on draft day. Orlando and Golden State might consolidate their picks for a veteran and a pick. I wouldn't rule out Philly shopping Simmons for a top pick. There was almost a play with the Warriors last year, maybe something comes through this year. If the Spurs do end up with the 12th pick, I'm hoping for Moody or Wagner. Spurs tend to draft by best player available vs position of need. I'll trust their intel on this.
12. San Antonio Spurs
Jalen Johnson
Duke
SF/PF
Age: 19.4
The Spurs will likely be in the market for frontcourt help and can afford to take a home run swing on a high-upside prospect like Johnson. He is a 6-foot-9 forward with guard skills who brings the type of playmaking and defensive versatility that is very hard. He'd be a strong fit alongside the likes of Keldon Johnson and Devin Vassell, while also having the potential to see time as a small-ball center, like he did at Duke.
Jonathan Givony has similar ideas to mine. He has the Kings taking Wagner, Pelicans taking Kispert, and Hornets taking Jackson.

Also, he has the Thunder taking Sengun, and the Warriors taking Bouknight.
Mr. Givony, are you reading this thread???
During the televised broadcast, that interview with Ant-man was insightful:
Heavily credits Ricky Rubio for helping him develop his professionalism and work ethic upon entering the league.
An instance where a trade (in this case bringing back a respected, non star-ish player) goes well beyond the increase in Ws and Ls.
Starting to warm to the Harrison Barnes scenarios...
Can we ing tank a season or 2 already?
We're gonna be a garbage treadmill team forever
If Toronto drafts Kuminga, Siakam definitely becomes a trade target. To get his contract off their books to resign Trent and Boucher, would be a big priority. Spurs being under the cap, they could absorb the salary. To go from DeRozen to Siakam would be a big difference!
Did a quick tour of other teams' forums and tried to gauge consensus... (with the player in bold as my guess as to what happens)
1. Pistons - Cade
2. Rockets - Mobley, Green, Suggs
3. Cavaliers - Mobley, Green
4. Raptors - Suggs, Green
5. Magic - Barnes, Kuminga, Moody
6. Thunder - Barnes, Mitc , Kuminga (these fans sound so depressed when I was reading their forum)
7. Warriors - Moody, Jalen Johnson, Wagner
8. Magic - Barnes, Kuminga, Moody, Bouknight, or trade (these fans sound so depressed when I was reading their forum)
9. Kings - Wagner, Moody, Jalen Johnson
10. Pelicans - Kispert or trade (these fans sound so depressed when I was reading their forum)
11. Hornets - Jackson, Sengun, Jones
12. Spurs - Sengun, Jones, Wagner, Giddey, Moody (from the poll)

Johnson sounds intriguing. But given how much of a premium the Spurs put on character, I don't see it.
Me neither. Especially not after seeing the young guys on the team get together and take wholesome pictures together. They're not going to add poison to that water.
Anyone believe the Spurs would pass up drafting a big man if the FO is aware that they may have a good chance of drafting Chet next year?
NBAdraft.net has us taking Kai Jones. Looks like a stretch 5, his comparisons on there are Jaxson Hayes and Jaren Jackson Jr. If he's an athletic big that can shoot, that's got to be good value at 12 right? Assuming he falls.
Magic at 8 could be a good trade partner. Not sure it’s worth moving up but if they fall in love with somebody it might be doable.
Trey Murphy lll measured 6'7.5" barefoot and 6'9.25" in shoes while Thor measured 6'8.5" barefoot and 6'9.25" in shoes!
So Thor is a full inch taller barefoot, but in shoes they are the same size?
