With most of the top 20 being permanently retired (barring a miracle), it appears it would be decades -if ever.
For you Pop Haters who think this diminishes him, bear in mind a coach has to be in the playoffs in order to lose them. As you can see thus most of the top 20 losses are also in the top 20 for wins. Pop is by far the Most 1st Round Outs coach another possibly untouchable record.

Pops % has sadly dropped to .599 as he stubbornly refuses to accept a front office en lement position.
    .599 = 14th for playoff win %.

It's not a record that will speak to the casual when the win percent is .599.
Even for non casuals, it is hard to argue against that too hard.

He got to ride Kawhi for one year after Duncan retired. His playoff record post Kawhi is 4-8.

4-11 post-Zaza (or 12 depending on how you want to treat game 1). Though they did win the prior game without Kawhi.

4-12. Pop and Softridge get the game 1 loss guaranteed.

Ya the game before cliching vs Houston was a thing of beauty. Rookie DJ Murray going off for 11/10/5 in only 24 minutes.
Softridge shooting well. Johny Simmons ballin.
Popped limiting Bryn Forbes to 4 minutes even tho it meant sleeping on the couch that night.
    Good times.
Spurs were rolling to the 2017 Championship.

166-102 with Duncan and Prime Kawhi.

Unless Duncan missed some playoff games.

*This includes Duncan forced to have Matt Bonner as the starting PF in some playoff games which were predictably lost.

Doc will get it if he coaches long enough. He’s barely over .500

Doc will beat this record as well as the all-time wins record. He’s only 59 and he only coaches contenders (Orlando, Boston, Clippers, Sixers, etc).

You mean you think Pops record is as ridiculously unbeatable as Kobes?
Well true, but as the guys have mentioned Doc Rivers is mathematically within range.

Very true. After the 6ers underachieve Doc will probably find another owner who falls for it. Or just milk Balmer for years. Guy must be unreal in interviews. Or knows where the bodies are.
But how many more years can and will Pop add to his total? Or will he make the playoffs ever again? Conceivable Pop coaches 5 more years? (no trolling)
Should Pop be allowed to coach until he passes away? - Page 2 (spurstalk.com)

Rick Carlisle have a long term shot if Cuban adds another prime player and cast to go with Doncic?

He could end up doing it with the 76ers. He’s 25 behind, and that could be done in 3-4 playoff runs.

Does Pop really have more 1st round exits than Jerry Sloan? Idk why but I find that hard to believe.

*** edit** I looked it up. Lenny Wilkens has 9 first round exits. Doc Rivers, Rick Adelman, and Jerry Sloan have 8 first round exits. Carlisle has 7
Pop only has 6 which is tied with Larry Brown

    ^ nicely done.
I often miscount the 2010 sweep by the Suns as 1st round. (It was 2nd round.)

Also Flip Saunders and Nate McMillan have 7 and 8 first round exits respectively. Pop only having 6 seems like quite the achievement tbh

I would say Nate and Flip having that many first round exits isn’t shocking since they coached mostly threadmill teams that were first round teams. Phil Jackson in comparison to Pop only has two first round exits.

He's also 2 away from having the most playoff wins of all time, so....I think this just shows he has coached a lot of playoff games. Which means he has been very successful in his career of getting his team to the playoffs.

But I get it, any excuse to bash Pop and what not. So trendy. Very bold of you.
