Miami cannot sign and trade both DDR and Lowry. They resigned Dragic with the intention of sending him in a sign and trade along with picks to Toronto. The other free agents are Duncan Robinson and Nunn. Not enough to trade and sign for DDR nor is it something the Spurs want. What could be looked at is Poetl going back to Toronto along with Murray and more from Miami that could allow the 30mil per year Siakam to go to the Spurs. Miami gets what it wants in Lowry and DDR and Toronto gets out from under Sialam's salary which is what they want to do along with some decent additions and draft picks.

I think all the happy talk came crashing down once the Westbrick trade happened. And the Clipper path to ring looks bad now, so that has to be out too.

Looks at the rest of the options:

    - The Knicks might talk themselves into it, but it feels like they have a competent FO now so dont bank on it.

    - the Miami thing looks bleak since they’re essentially also relying on a full MLE offer.

    - Maybe Dallas? But they have to decide what to do with Hardaway first. That would eat into their space, but they at least could have more than the MLE to use.

    - My dark horse and preferred option is Washington as a running mate for Beal, but we have no idea where Beal’s head truly is.

And of course, I don’t yet rule out the Spurs doing something dumb and offering him and extension. I pray not, but I don’t think we know for sure yet. Barf.
DeRozan meant he'd take $20 million a season to play on the Lakers, not $10 million a season.

How would Miami acquire DeRozan? Sign and trade? Who would they give us for him?

If we not getting young player or draft players I would rather just let him walk - We in a rebuild mode we are not close to a winning team

Now every Spurs fan should realize what an absolute blessing 1989 through 2019 was from a sports perspective.
No doubt. To think the DeRozan years would be considered a successful era for teams like the Timberwolves.

Yeah. I never thought the idea of him taking the MLE was ever a real possibility. Plus, im sure he knows that that once you take that lower amount of money, it's really hard to get back to a higher level.

I swear that most of today's so called reporters are completely braindead.

Demar is currently on 27 million per year.
His next max would start at what, like 30 million?

Taking a paycut means that he'd be willing to take maybe 20ish per year to play on a contender. I'd say 80 to 100 over 4 years.
Not that he'd ing accept MLE or whatever they think he'd accept.

With that being said, can he go already? If we can't get a good S&T, just let him walk.

I don’t know man. You are what the market says you are, and clearly, here in the NBA of 2021, there dont seem to be teams lining up to pay top dollar for a two point specialist with a mediocre playoff track record.

He may well be worth $15M now.

I can't see the Spurs signing him to anything more than a two year deal below a max number.

Even that doesn't add up with the Primo pick. DeRozan would take all the growth opportunities for the under 27 group. He's just got no place on the roster aside from the Spurs being good guys and giving him a contact he can't find anywhere else.

I was going to post yesterday but seeing the tweet above about him taking the MLE it is a real slap in the face to him that the media speculation has Lowry getting a bigger deal and Derozan taking the MLE. DD is younger than Lowry, you would think if anyone takes the MLE it would be the older guy.

I think DDR will look to get a pay day max. If he doesn't get that from a team with cap space (ahem Knicks), then he will revisit the Spurs on a two year deal at above the MLE with a player option for next year. If he can't get what he wants from the Spurs, then I think he'd consider a mid-level on a contender, but that's worst case scenario. I mean, best case for him is to sign with the Knicks for the most money possible, and then demand a trade midyear and try and get to a contender. I don't think he can do that at a high salary, but that's pretty much the formula players take now days.

If the spurs resign _eRozan cause no other team would sign him I’d quit being a fan on the spot till Brian Wright is gone. Seriously there’s not one team in the nba Derozan makes better. The spurs will have a better record without him barring injuries .

See, I completely disagree. DeRozan is a high quality NBA player. He could really improve some teams. His problem is not if he has skills, it's that the teams in win-now mode don't have money to sign him and the teams that have cap space are terrible and are not looking to add veteran players, but rather draft assets. NYC is one of the few teams that would check the box for him on getting paid and he would make them better. I think they are the favorites to land him. I don't get why the hate. He's one of the best creators off the dribble in the NBA and he is a great mid range scorer that can get to the basket, get to the line, and get a good shot and the end of the shot clock. He's not a scrub. He's just the 2nd or 3rd best player on a championship team, not a first. You could plug a lot of players perceived as better into his spot on the Spurs, and we still wouldn't make the playoffs.

If the win now teams wanted him it would be pretty easy for them to obtain him in a S&T though…if you want to win and you can get a DDR without having cap space?

It’s not like stars are just available all the time to choose from if you want; he’s available for sure, you don’t have cap space but want win - what are they waiting for?

It’s all contextual for me. Ive been hoping and pushing for them to get something, but it’s not just for the sake of it; it’s because I dont like this FA class and Id rather get draft picks than these players.

But if no one wants DDR what can they do? And I dont want them to get crapped on; has to make sense for SA obviously but bar shouldn’t be that high.

He has to go. Did they really build around him with 3/D players to maximize his role? Of course not. Do I want to explore that? , no. Too late. Move on.
