The Boston Celtics are finalizing an agreement to hire Brooklyn Nets assistant Ime Udoka as the franchise's new coach, sources tell ESPN.

Happy for him, he really waited his turn

Have been rooting for him ever since he made those clutch threes in New Orleans with that ugly ass jumper tbh

    Congrats Ime!
Always one of my dark horses to replace Pop.
Not sure that's based on anything as I've never seen him coach...

Best part is that he gets to pick the head of one of the greatest coaches in the league (at the time Brad coached) anytime he wants in Stevens. Great opportunity for him. Superstar in Tatum. All Star in Brown. They shed Kemba ty ass contract and if they sign Kyle/Dragic they are right back in the mix of things

Damn, he was one candidate I was hoping would fly under the radar just a bit longer until Pops finally called it quits.

Ime to Boston, Becky reportedly headed for Portland...... Smh, the well really is drying up in SanAn as far as suitable successors go.

Jesus. People say Pop is leaving. But they will need someone already in mind because it’s looking like no Ime, and probably no Bud or Becky. Ime was my first choice. We’ll see what happens. Will Hardy, though likely smart and talented, would be a joke, or at least it’s a concern. Not a top candidate.

I'm betting Portland ends up going with Pringles, but we'll see.

yeah, pringles always seems to find a way to wind up somewhere. i think the blazers will be sold on his high-octane philosophy with their roster.

Man, that'd be kinda disastrous for them. Not because Dame can't work out in a MDA offense - quite the opposite - but because none of the Blazers' shortcomings have been due to their offense. They need a defensive-minded coach first and foremost, ironically someone like Udoka could've worked well for them instead of D'antoni, who'll just have them trying to outscore the opposition every game, shootout-style. Is Messina still a HC in Europe? That would be a great hire too...

I know he's not really a developmental coach, much less at this stage of his career, but I'd like to see MDA in the Spurs low-key tbh. Spurs desperately need that kind of offensive, shooting-minded approach to their game. But it won't happen.

I agree 100%. But with Portland having been on the doorstep of contention for so long, I think the ownership and front office are going to be pressured into a swing for the fences move...and Becky or Billups wouldn't be it (even if it's the smarter, more well-rounded move).

It would be fun to see Dame and the Blazers running the MDA offense...but the same pitfalls are going to be there (mainly lack of defense, and a three-point barrage that usually doesn't equate to the playoffs).

If Pringles couldn't get it done with Nash/Amare/Marion or Harden and Paul/Westbrook, I don't see how Lillard/McCollum and any pieces that stack around him will be any better.

Pringles is exponentially worse than Stotts. I thought Stotts always overachieved.

Maybe Becky gets the nod in SA.

Happy for Ime. 1st stint as HC is a legendary franchise.

I thought I heard Stevens praising her and that she was going to get an interview.
