    even if you were to deem it a mental illness, the most effective method of treatment from the data we have is to have them express as their gender iden y of choice, and to have strong support from immediate family. just telling them that they're mentally ill and basically denying their internal experience as delusion tends to lead to adverse health effects like suicidality
    No one is denying them anything nor is there this overwhelming chant of "mental illness" just like there's no real threat of "white supremacy". Hyperbole from progressives isn't reality.

    In the end lying to others and playing pretend with them puts us all in a heap of trouble.

    nobody is asking you to lie or pretend either. you've already said you respect trans people you know and use what name/pronoun they prefer so it seems that functionally speaking we agree on this.
