Of course, this is stupid, because even if it worked, if the dam is damaged in that way, catastrophic failure is likely. It’s hard to send amphibious vehicles across a raging torrent of floodwater. Now they’ve lost the element of surprise.

The Russians, being stupid, read that idea, thought it was smart, lowered the dam level to plant explosives, then raised the dam level, then tried to blow a small hole in the dam, which of course once compromised totally collapsed. They didn’t even bother to move their positions on the left bank out of the way in advance.

Betting on Russia being stupid is always the safe bet.
