Our roster has 6 of our FRPs, DJ, White, Lonnie, Keldon, Devin, and Primo. Those players lack size, so if you happen upon a former lottery pick like Zollins, and maybe Smith too, you go for it. Other than Poeltl, most of the rest of the roster are just guys…Eubanks, Young, Landale. We only have one FRP for the next 3 drafts, so that would be pretty slow roster turnover. There’s absolutely no reason you don’t keep Zollins if he’s healthy, sign Smith, and draft a big this year. Three lottery and former lottery bigs is not a problem in my book. If Zollins shows out, he’ll probably leave the year after Poeltl. If you sign Smith this summer, his contract would end the year after that. You don’t let them all walk, but it would be good if they all played so well that it was a tough decision. You could also maybe leverage one or more into draft capital if there is a logjam.
Okay yes I agree with this. I was simply stating we are going to have many opportunities to upgrade this roster the next few years so while there may be a time when a Collins/Jak starting frontline is our best alternative I’d hope we can do better. Collins is a big question mark although I think there is a good chance he turns into a steal, I’m not convinced he is going to be that 20/10 starting big we so desperately need. I’m more confident, if healthy he could be our first quality backup big for both the 4 and 5 on a reasonable salary.

Where did you get that we have 1 FRP in next 3 years? We own all our FRP and together with the Chicago FRP, we have 4 FRP in the next 3 years
Bad way of stating it. One each for the next 3 drafts, so that would take us up to 8 FRPs on the roster, assuming Lonnie’s gone. That leaves 7 roster spots that could be filled, depending on who goes and who stays.

I think the 20/10 big will eventually go the way of the dinosaurs. Premier bigs in 5 years will be able to shoot from 3, provide rim protection, rebound in space, and be able to switch onto smaller players and not be embarrassed.

Oh I want my 20/10 guy to be doing all that you mention above best believe. I’m not saying we desperately need a traditional 20/10 big I’m saying we need a new age big to be one of our top 3 players…. If the talent is there the stats will follow. If Jak is going to be our long term 5 your going to need a complimentary top tier big as his running mate if you want to compete in this league.

Why can’t it be a 25/7/5/2 SF? I think Devin can get there, or Spurs can trade for. But it doesn’t have to be a 20/10 big. Collins doesn’t need to be a 20/10. Murray needs another capable scorer to take some of the scoring pressure, ideally who can iso when games get slower, a SF, a SG. It doesn’t have to be a big.

Lonnie just bought a house here like a week ago. Seems to me you'd wait another 4 or so months until you see if the team is gonna match any offers unless your agent is hearing they are likely to make a compe ive offer. Just doesn't make sense to buy this late in your tenure.

Yeah, that doesn't make sense to buy one this late in the season if you weren't sure you'd be coming back. Unless he really likes it in SA and is planning to live during the off-season. I wonder if Kawhi's mom still lives here (I am assuming so as I recall him building her a pretty big house, so I guess she liked living in SA)?

Why doesn't he go up with power? This drives me nuts. He's exactly like Poeltl inside with finesse, but at least he can stretch the court.

Always possible I guess. As for neph and that fool's mom, I always just assumed she left after he went back to LA. I know she stayed here instead of moving while that fool was in Toronto.

Nah he’s alright. He’ll finish them with authority. But I like the way he has the feel for the game, nothing hurried. Looking on his 2nd game.

Dude's still dealing with a ed up foot. I'd rather not press it. Two points is two points.

He’s already made 12m in his career. He bought a 550k home. His next contract will probably be another 2-5mm a year no matter where he signs. That home could easily be used/viewed as an investment property and hardly an indication of whether he will be in San Antonio long term.

Agreed, although at first look he looks like he has lost some bounce. Still finishes much nicer than Jak around the rim.

if we are going to compete at a high level both a top tier 2/3 and a top tier 4 are necessary in my mind with Murray continuing to do a little bit of everything on both sides of the ball. I don’t see anyone on this roster with top tier ability. Devin has a long way to go if he is going to become a main scoring threat. I understand Primo is young but the optimism around him at this point is just that.
