Where are all the people who said a) Forbes wouldn't be traded cause no one would want him, b) Pop won't trade Forbes, and C) the Spurs won't make a trade.

Special S/O if you're one of the few triple threats who managed to fall in all three categories.

I'm absolutely shocked the Spurs got an asset for Forms. Either Denver didn't do their homework or they're desperate.

I disagree with Mr Body here - you're right. The Nuggets are desperate as can be. No MPJ, no Murray, and yet Jokic's excellence as a one-man army prevents them from punting out the year like the Warriors did when they "tanked" for Kuminga. Any kind of shooting is welcome, especially inexpensive one, and they don't care much about defense as-is, so Forbes is kind of a perfect match for them.

Denver is desperate. They’re close to slipping out of the playoffs, after being preseason conference heavyweights. Both Murray and Porter are out, but should return sometime after the ASG. They need shooting.

Forbes must of asked for a trade for Pop to trade Forbes. Forbes obviously doesn't' care about winning very much or he wouldn't of signed with the Spurs in the offseason, what he wants is minutes. Forbes must of thought he was going to be a starter playing 30 minutes a game but Pop is trying to get to 26 wins so he knew better than to play Forbes big minutes this season.

    The way I see it:
Forbes is gone. It opens up minutes for another guard - win !
Forbes is gone. We got a second round pick...Forbes could be out of the league in 6 years but we'll still have that pick to keep or trade - win !
Forbes is gone. We got 2 million plus for a player who was undrafted - win !
Forbes is gone. No more ing about his ultra poor defense - win!
We got a player back, but like Forbes he probably wasn't going to be back next season - win !
The way I see it, It was an ugly win but still a win.

what about group 5? Which is defined as, Why the are we celebrating a SRP 6 yrs down the road, and a player who is most likely washed that actually raises our salary a bit, FOR a player we all agree should never have been brought back to begin with.

I'm in that group, and I chuckle at all the folks telling me we came our of that with the positive of nothing else only to be Primo is gonna get more PT. Then to have pop dash their hopes IMMEDIATELY today by saying that Primo was gonna stay in the G league cause he needs the work. But evidently, Weiskamp doesn't. it's comical and I'm evidently the only one that gets the joke while you clap.like seals.

It's a minor asset for a minor asset that ST think is a net negative for a rebuilding team. So it's a win. As for the player spurs getting back. Likely a waiver candidate to make room for 2 for 1 in a young trade.

Forbes had an option ($2.5M) with Milwaukee that he declined. When he wasn’t getting offers, he and the Spurs agreed on a one year deal, so he could have some control over where he went. He was already traded when he signed, we just had to wait to see where.

In 2016, when it became clear that Duncan was done, we salary dumped Diaw to Utah, with a second rounder attached. Six years, and several trades later, Cleveland owns that pick, which is in the mid 30s. Far down the road isn’t automatically bad. As for the protection, 31-33 is about as lightly protected as you can have without actually being unprotected. NBD.

Because signing Forbes is a sunk cost already. And fixing that error while getting something. Anything. Is a good thing.

Maybe we shouldn't have signed and kept Luka or aminu etc. But we already did. So no point crying about that. But getting anything for him is still worth to be happy about

So I've seen reported that it's protected from 31-33....so that protection is pretty minimal and the Nuggets would have to be total garbage to be in that range.

That said, if the protection does occur, does the pick convey to 2029?

Most of the time, if the protection on a SRP is met, the pick just doesn’t convey. To be fair, many times the pick is a technicality to meet the CBA requirements of assets going both ways, and it will be like 31-55, with the pick never meant to convey. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a pick protection for a SRP include rolling into a later SRP.
