It took Demar Derozan leaving for him to be an all star
Someone gets robbed every year. Honestly, DeRozan got robbed last time because they wanted to give a pity spot to Mike Conley.
Super stoked for DJ...he has definitely been a bright spot on this season, and I actually think inclusion in these kind of things could spur him (get it) to bigger things. If he gets a taste of that All-Star life, he may want to keep it going.

I can see segments of Murray’s story in the AS and the media milking it. It helps becoming more a household name and a source of inspiration to a lot, maybe an ambassador to Big Brothers Big Sisters or sort and catapults his name more. It could help attract players wanting to play with him.
Basically, if Murray balls out during the ASG (which would be hard, especially given his last-man status), it would do a lot for his stock and that of the Spurs. A lot of people (including myself in this) have a hard time seeing Murray as anything but a role-player masquerading as a star on a bad team. If he can show out on the biggest stage (that SA can reasonably expect to have this season), then more people will be comfortable with the idea that DeJounte can be built around and joined.
Though that could end up meaning that the Spurs would have to save cap space to renegotiate his contract next up to a near max next off-season. You can't market him as a star on one hand and be unwilling to pay him as one on the other.
The irony of things that the Spurs who view character as an important factor to be the organisation willingly to give him a chance when he was bypassed by many other organisations.
I think the spurs factored in having a strong group of veterans around him in Parker, Manu, Mills that could guide him.
I often feel like that was exaggerated, he had a rough up bringing yeah, but there is not a single legal do ent of him ever being in trouble and he has always had a great personality.
Regardless it did not stop multiple organisations from dropping their promise to draft him
Yeah i'm not complaining I love that he dropped to 29
This.
Pretty sure we all get into stupid stuff when we are kids. Some more than ever. That doesn't define your adulthood, and DJ is a great example of that. He just needed some guidance and structure, probably something he never had growing up.
of course McDermott and Johnson don't make it, but Patty does now that he plays for the Nets. But hey the NBA doesn't hate the Spurs
That’s gotta be one of the worst 3 PT contestants in a longtime tbh
viewing character as important may have meant the spurs actually talked to him and his support network and got to know him a bit, and determined he wasn't an asshole
I also notice that. I think Bertans also when he was finally a Wizard. The only thing I remember was Beli winning it. Other than that, I don’t remember Spurs getting invited, or how does it work?
PATFO tbh looks for those players who overcome adversities. I don’t know what happened to Luka, but him and Weiskamp killed it at Combine
It took years for Bonner to be invited just for one appearance and he almost beat Kyrie Irving (I think ?) for the le.
Patty gonna kill it in the 3-pt contest
Bertans was leading the league in 3P% at the time of the All-Star break and Spurs fans were on social media daily literally begging for him to get an invite and the NBA still told him to go himself lol. The very next season he’s in DC and he’s the first one to get an invite
No surprise they continue to us. Silver is a noob who only wants players from big markets or really marketable players from small ones. The fact he picked Dejounte over AD for the ASG honestly surprised me, though it was clearly the obvious choice. It took players clamoring for him to get the nod for Silver to pull the trigger.
So, if Murray is all that and a bag of chips, why didn't Pop pick him over Johnson for the Olympics?
Because Pop didn’t pick him for the Olympics team. He doesn’t have that final say. He picked both Keldon, and earlier White for their respective Select Teams. They made it on to the Mens Senior Team by attrition.
I remember for years the NBA wouldn't allow Matt Bonner in the 3-point contest until Kobe lobbied for him to get in.
DJ needs to keep making these games tbh. The NBA already keeps screwing us over with these lack of 3 point invites/dunk contest invites/ and rookie sop re game. If we are ever going to attract a disgruntled star (very unlikely I know) we need DJ to rep us an all-star.
Durant just picked DJ with the 4th pick in the reserves round.
He got picked ahead of Jimmy Butler, Gobert, Lamelo Ball, James Hardin and others.
Everyone knows Murray is s stud
