Phil had jordan, Pippen, shaq and kobe. Riley had magic Kareem worthy Lebron and shaq. Every successful coach has a loaded roster. I can’t think of one single coach who won a le, or even got to the finals with a roster.
Riley with the Knicks was just OK, and even then he had Ewing, Oakley, Starks, mason (rest his soul).
Pop did well when nephew was here. Even with a roster led by derozan and lamarcus the spurs out did their expectations. In fact, year after year the spurs were too old, and yet they squeeezed multiple les out of it. They were too or since 2006. And they got a le in 2014. Outside of 2009 to 2011, the spurs were contenders every single year. 2003 was supposed to be a rebuild year and the spurs won a le. Yes, it was a phenomenal run by duncan, one of the greatest in league history, but the way the spurs played defence was incredible and a single player, no matter how great cannot single handedly prop up a teams entire defence to make it one of the greatest in the league.
If you want to remove Duncan, then Kawhi, the yeah, pop wouldn’t have much to fall back on. But that applies to every single coach in the history of the league.
