The Spurs need good offensive players. But I wonder if he's going to get the usual treatment of going to Austin to learn how to be a PG. I think Sochan won't do that or at least that that's not the plan. But this feels like another shot the team is going to take and that same target they've been looking at the past few years.

I wish we could have made our way to 4 or into the teens, but given that hasn't happened, we certainly have made sensible choices.

There are only 3 replies to this thread. Need to get the chatter up for this dude.

Meanwhile... excluding centers, here are the picks between 11-19 in the draft:

    Ousmane Dieng
    Jalen Williams
    Ochai Agbachi
    AJ Griffin
    Tari Eason
    Dalen Terry
    Jake LaRavia

With Johnny Davis having been #10.

How many of those will Malaki wind up better than in his career?

The fact that we got him for Thad Young and the 33rd pick is a steal

Purely as a prospect, I think Malaki is not behind any of them, and clearly ahead of most (Dieng, Agbaji, AJ Griffin, Dalen Terry & LaRavia). I'd put him in the same tier as Jalen Williams and Johnny Davis, and with a higher floor than Eason. Realistically from 10 on I'd only take before him the 2 centers (Duren & Mark Williams) and Eason, and that's PURELY because of fit, not because I think they'll necessarily have a better career. It's a phenomenal value pick.

Going by what Brian Wright said, that they were working the phones prepared to trade up or down, I think that if someone had taken Sochan at 9, they likely would have tried to move down to get Branham and pick up other assets. I also think that if they knew someone was targeting him, they wouldn't have hesitated to pull the trigger to move up.

Agbaji is good. Why people downplay how good he is.

I'm not dissing Agbaji, he's an NBA player and will be a nice role player for many years. But his ceiling is much lower than Branham. Didn't make sense for us. Still would have taken him over Sharpe, though.

You don't think a 22 year old can improve. I'm not so sure Branham has a higher ceiling.

No team would have taken Agbachi over Sharpe not even the Spurs.

I thought the Knicks, Cavs, Hawks, Bulls were all potential landing spots for Branham. Knicks decided shedding salary was more important than adding a player (mistake imo), Cavs went defense with Agbaji which is understandable given they want to win now, Hawks went Griffin which is understandable, Not really sure what the Bulls were trying to achieve with the Terry pick given they already have Lonzo and Caruso both who are good defenders.
