Republicans stepped up calls on Sunday for the release of an FBI affidavit showing the justification for its seizure of do ents at former President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago home amid reports of heightened threats against federal law enforcement personnel.
A search warrant released last week after the unprecedented search showed that Trump had 11 sets of classified do ents at his home, and that the Justice Department had probable cause to conduct the search based on possible Espionage Act violations.

Republicans are calling for the disclosure of more detailed information that persuaded a federal judge to issue the search warrant, which may show sources of information and details about the nature of the do ents and other classified information. The unsealing of such affidavits is highly unusual and would require approval from a federal judge.

"I think a releasing the affidavit would help, at least that would confirm that there was justification for this raid," Sen. Mike Rounds, R-S.D., said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

Ex-White House official and lawyer Kash Patel on Sunday said former President Donald Trump has been engaged in a “bureaucratic battle” to declassify do ents well before the FBI raid on his Florida home.

In an interview on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures,” Patel, who served as chief of state of the acting secretary of defense in the Trump White House, said Trump has legally declassified troves of do ents.

“President Trump made me his representative a month ago, and we've been in a bureaucratic battle,” he said. “We found whole sets of do ents we got out to the American public … about 60%.”

He said Trump “made it his mission to declassify and be transparent.”

“In October 2020, he issued a sweeping declassification order for every single Russiagate do ent and every [former Secretary of State] Hillary Clinton do ent,” Patel said.

“He … declassified whole sets of do ents. And this is a key fact, President Trump as a sitting president is a unilateral authority for declassification," he said. "He can literally hand over a set of do ents and say these are now declassified, and that is done with definitive action immediately.”

According to Patel, the National Archives “referred this to the Department of Justice.”



“But they … failed to refer Hillary Clinton to the Department of Justice when they got their hands on the classified e-mails from those servers,” he lamented.

Patel asserted the Mar-a-Lago raid on Aug. 8 will adversely affect the public’s future access to important do ents.

“As a former national security prosecutor in the national security division where this case is being run out of … this is a, quote-unquote, ongoing FBI counterintelligence investigation,” he warned. “You will never be allowed to see the Russiagate docs or any other docs that President Trump lawfully declassified, and they will hide it from the public.”

"Congress has a monumental list ahead of them come November,” he added. “They better start subpoenaing these do ents immediately. Merrick Garland and FBI director Chris Wray have failed in their mission to uphold the law. They are completely destroying our Cons ution and putting on a two-tiered system of justice.

Republican Congressman Warns Garland, You Are Not Above The Law

Ohio Republican Rep. Mike Turner delivered a message to Attorney General Merrick Garland. No one is above the law, not even him.

He appeared on the CNN show “State of the Union” on Sunday and said that Garland himself has to be careful.

“Well, we have a number of concerns. One is whether or not the raid was justified. We have this list from the FBI, but we don’t have conclusive as to whether or not this is actually classified material and whether or not it rises to the level of the highest classified material. On a bipartisan basis, Congress is saying, show us the goods,” he said, Breitbart News reported.
