Nice article.

I think Tre may keep the job a long time.
Basically there were very possible scenarios that Jones played well enough to get the MLE and the team let him go to develop Primo as the starter with Wesley as the backup. Now if Jones plays well he keeps the job, and signing him to an extension makes even more sense. Wesley speed up his chance by at least a year -- in a scenario where Jones played well enough to be kept and is in the rotation with Primo, Wesley might not get a chance for even longer. It's one thing to outcompete Primo on the court. But with the esteem Josh seemed to have with the staff, it doesn't feel like merely being the better player was going to get Blake the spot.
I think the team needs to stop fooling around and get a point-guard. If they were willing to have three before this waiving, they should continue to do so. They don't need a ball-stopper, but teams are going to start putting more pressure on the non-PGs once they adjust to the lack of a lead guard. It's good for everyone's value to show they can run an offense, so it's understandable why they want Richardson, Langford, Johnson and Vassell to do that. But it also adds value to those players to not have to do that and to just focus on their strengths.
without having read the article, his release hurts our tanking chances
At the notion of Jones even being a consideration for "point guard of the future".
His ceiling is quality backup, he's nowhere near dynamic enough to be a starter, especially if Johnson and Vassell end up as the long term starting wings.
Have to agree with you here and I really like Tre Jones and have been a proponent of since early
last year.
Tre could be a starter as a high end role player on a starting lineup flooded with talent but to call him the possible PG of the future is a stretch. Pop’s just trying to pump his tires up right now. Doing his puppeteering. Pop gon’ Pop
Tre Jones with the bad ass pass under the legs and then gets it back to drain a 3! That was sexy...
"Primo's Release"
tbh
Primos Unexpected Release would have been better, tbh.
Hey nobody ever said Primo 'released' anything now, might have been all show and no action!
I agree with that. But I think I’m in the minority here in saying that I am OK with Tre Jones being the starter, assuming he continues to improve, and if, IF, he can be a credible three point shooter. He might not be able to and that would be the problem with me. My larger point is that I think it’s OK to have a pass first point guard who is not pounding the ball too much, because I really got tired of that with DJ and DDR. So for Jones to be the starter, not only would he have to improve but the hope is that we do draft more talent around him and his selflessness allows Keldon and Devin and whoever else to succeed. I think that’s an advantage of Jones being out there, especially for a developing team.
not mentioned in this article is how the release of primo could impact how the spurs approach next year's draft.
timvp, I read somewhere that Sochan’s college coach used him as a facilitator on some plays, which is not far from what Spurs do in the Beautiful Game, ala Boris Diaw. I think will see Pop running the plays through Sochan also in the future

Can't wait to see Primo's impact in court
I'm not sure I want to hear anything about Primo's impact...
Apparently it is bigger off court than on.
But if a tree fall in the woods does it make a sound...
Was this featured on the BBC?
Zero on court apparently
a chihuahua will bark at it 500 miles away.
I can't dispute that one....touché
^ Dr Cathy is the chihuahua and lil joshy is the oak tree?!?
