The Second Amendment only has to do with collective ownership of arms. It is literally just about militias. Read the ing thing.

Oh great, another political thread sparked by Pop's comments.

He has the right to say the things he did. If you disagree feel free to vent about it. But don't expect ESPN to give you a platform.

yeah they wrote it badly. it's weird to have a cons utional right for a consumer good. arguably the right to house and car is more popular, food, etc. the gov regulates those and nobody complains. even without the second you'd still buy guns if you wanted. you just might not get the fun stuff. same as it is now actually.

    Just militias, you ing dope.

Learn some ing history. The new government didn't want and could not afford a standing army. And they struggled with local uprisings, such as Shay's Rebellion, and so they wanted to strengthen the ability of localities to protect themselves. Since this helped kill Indians and put down escaping slaves, all the better.

The Second Amendment is as useless to modern society at the Third Amendment, but literally the stupidest people on earth think it's a death pact.

Right wingers just want people to die.

go to law school and study the history. MR body describes the traditional pre John Roberts interpretation as a personal self defense right.

Pop probably has not touched a weapon since his service 40+ years ago - he is a basketball coach first and foremost.

The people are the militia. The protection of that right is for each individual citizen - not a collective group sanctioned by the Federal Government - not the National Guard.

This aspect of the Spurs coach is getting tiresome. When the team is on the road, he likes to throw out barbs at the end of his presser just to stir things up - he did that this week at least two times.

I respect the accomplishments of Coach Popovich - the now frequent rants may be a by-product of the less than stellar basketball on display in SA at the moment.

I'm sure the remnants on this forum (way fewer than there used to be) will include a number who disagree with my opinion.

The Republican party are group of horrible horrible, extremely racists individuals. It's ing sad. Make no mistake, I'm in full support of mentally healthy and law abiding citizens owning guns, except for assault rifles. There's ing no need for those things. My friends own guns, and they are good citizens in which I support their ownership of said guns.

I'll add, there are some good Republicans out there but they are ing rare. Most are racists, born into money (not all are rich of course and some are low middle class and below), want to control every aspect of your life based on THEIR religious beliefs pieces of . The worst thing about the extreme left is the stupid cancel culture. I'll use simple logic and side with the lesser of two evils.

Bc back then if you didn’t have a gun you were dead. Guns were very useful in the 1700s.

I'm not especially passionate about this issue. The second amendment is written ambiguously enough in the context of a very different society that it is reasonable for people to come to different conclusions. I would say the wording of the second amendment in addition to the broader context of the Bill of Rights and other founding do ents reflects a fear of tyrannical federal government, not Indian raids. The founders, if they understood modern cir stances, would probably want Americans to be armed. The founders are not, however, the ultimate arbiters of moral Truth. If you want different policies I understand that.

On discussions of policy, I overwhelming find right-wingers more articulate and more capable in exploring the nuances, while left-wingers tend to make broad statements and challenge anyone who opposes them as evil or stupid (see posts above). Much of this is because the former know much more about guns, their limitations, and current regulations than the latter due to actually dealing with them and not just reading opinions from media and politicians. They're not necessarily smarter or 100% correct of course, but it does make them better conversation partners and more persuasive.

Aggression is usually a poor method of persuasion anyway. For this particular topic, the more aggressive and tyrannical you sound, the more confident right-wingers are that you're a threat. More respect might get you further.

I'm actually impressed by people who can spout of words and articulate but what they're saying is actually complete hogwash. It's impressive indeed.

Edit: My bad, I was being too aggressive with the word bull . I'll replace that with "hogwash" instead.

On the topic of guns, much like almost every topic, the modern right engages in a brand of intellectual dishonesty that sounds articulate and nuanced, but is very much neither. You do raise a good point, however, in that the modern left is usually too busy acting like cry babies to take too seriously. In the end, however, the cry babies on the left are mostly harmless, while the intellectually dishonest human feces on the right is actively engaged in a harmful disinformation campaign.

But hey, you know, these dead kids - let's have a debate over how some slave owner worded something 250 years as though they were infallible gods.
