Yeah, they’re now slotted at #5. Very important for the Spurs to drop Thursdays game.
Rockets beat 76ers! Great news.

Spurs are #2 this morning in L column according to Tankathon. That guarantees us top 6 pick.
Yeah, Thursday is definitely a must-lose game for us.
Every game against the teams are
Has it been mentioned that this team, so far, has the 4th worst point differential of all time in the NBA?
*edit* Yes it has been mentioned.
Most definitely!!
I'm starting to think that we are embracing the tank and are going to be in the best position to get a top pick.
Last time I checked we have the 2nd worst record in the league.
The goal is any of the bottom 3 spots. They each have a 14% chance at #1. They each have a 52.1% chance at top 4.
The Magic beat the Clippers tonight, which helps us. Good news!!
The worst record still gets the best chance right, getting guaranteed top 4 pick? Then top 5, then top 6 for 2nd and 3rd worst, and so on?
Technically, yes, but after the first two, there’s a Grand Canyon sized drop off. I won’t really care much if we aren’t 1 or 2.
It’s guaranteed top 5, btw, not top 4, with the worst record. Up to 4 teams could jump ahead of you.
I’m excited at the chance for Wemby, but people need to manage their expectations. We have a 52% chance at top 4, which means we also have a 48% chance of being 5 or lower.
What are the odds of gertting the 5th pick with the worst record?
47.9%
Even if Spurs tank perfectly, it's still basically a coin flip that we will get a top 4 pick.
Can't be higher to get the 5th pick than the 1st pick.
So more likely to get pick 5 than pick 1 with the worst record
Yup. Running the TaT simulator is far more depressing now than it was whe we were like 6th.
But the better record teams have a lower chances of getting higher picks. So it plays out by the end of the day. I like our chances but of course I’m with also expecting the worst, I’m sure does the PATFO.
Happiness equals reality minus expectations.
Last year when there was an 80% chance of not jumping into the top 4, it was natural to expect staying at 9 with dropping to 10 being the downside case.
With the worst record there's almost a 50% chance of dropping 4 spots, and only 14% to "stay" at the #1 pick. Much more downside even though the overall pick slot should be much higher than last year.
It seems instructive that the chance of the Spurs getting VW this year, even with a bottom 3 record, are less than their chances of jumping into the top 4 were last draft.
The goal is to add talent. Sure there is a sweet spot in lottery odds but picking late lottery has not fared us very well when DJ, White and Keldon are as good or better than Primo, Sochan and DV.
If you want to add talent make an effort to get top draft picks annually. Let the one thing we still
do well (development) start from a better base.
Yeah, any pick in the top 6 is bound to help this team in the long run.
But some fans seem to be disillusioned that worst record = WEMBY....when that is far from the case.
Injuries galore, ATL struggling.
Add to that the friction between Trae and McMillan.
DJ deal looking even better.
We don't want them to suck yet. Better would be if they make even more win-now moves and have them backfire next season, leading to their key FAs (Dejounte included) leaving in 2024 and the Hawks bottoming out in 2024-2025, just in time for the first of the two unprotected picks they owe.
