What a night for a guy that has been underused here. So happy for him.

This really makes me wonder if he will be part of the Spurs future.

Maybe he and Sochan play a game of 1-on1 and the winner gets the others minutes?

This is Mamu’s world and we just so happen to live in it.

The thing with Mamu is that his advanced stats are some of the best on the roster. I get that he played some garbage time, but he seems to be more of a net positive than a lot of other guys in our rotation

I didn't watch the game but why only 20 minutes if he was nuclear the whole game?

Also, this is the murky time of year where better players are injured and Mamu plays and plays well and it's not clear if this is statistical noise or he actually should get more minutes.

Regardless. I'd be curious to see him get all Vassell minutes right now and just see what happens. He can shoot the 3 enough. He's the opposite of a ball stopper. Just saying.

I like how he took the mic from the reporter guy, which seemed to annoy him.

He can’t guard anyone. He’s too small for bigs, and not quick enough for wings.

he can be exposed for sure, but from a backup 4 you expect energy and hustle, not lockdown power.. I'm also not sure who is supposed to be the other backup 4 anyway, he's the only one that fits tbh.. going small with barnes doesn't make a ton of sense given he plays slow.

im aware he's a poor defender. i dont think he should have starters minutes or play 25mpg nightly or anything like that. he basically should have played the same minute Osman was giving us last year... 18-20 mpg or something like that

hes very poor defensively but he's still active. pushes the pace, can shoot, pass, beat closeouts. i love the chaotic energy he brings, particularly when alongside somebody like wesley (who also should have been getting some minutes throughout the year). as poor a defender he is, he's still a reasonble rebounder as well.

Yeah, he's awful defensively, but it's not like we have any other backup PF options who aren't overmatched.
He's a smart player and he worked well together with Wemby, should've had way more minutes.
I'm not saying he should've been the 6th man, but 10 to 15 minutes would've been fine.

And even though he's a bad defender, he's a good rebounder. Right now that's arguably an even bigger issue than just defense.

Also, when it comes to fringe rotation players, a good coach makes all the difference.
Star players and high end starters will always be on more or less the same individual level, but good coaches elevate scrubs and make them look useful.
Mitch has done nothing positive in that department.
Mamu and Champagnie aren't players worth losing sleep over, but they can both be useful on a well-coached team. With Mitch letting players do whatever, fringe guys often look lost.

Mamu is awful defensively, so we can't play him... it would take away from the minutes of all the defensive aces we have on our team.

    ..............

    Totally agree

Wemby should convey our need for a stable coaching staff.....a new breed

    Might he be too shy?

Was always high on his offense. Never knew why he was nailed to the bench when the Spurs were left with 2 bigs in Bassey and Mamu.

I am learning to hate coach Johnson. Mamu has a monster game and gets just a couple minutes in the next game. Dude sucks.

Mamu doesn’t play defense. If his shot isn’t falling, and it wasn’t, he’s a net negative.

Good bump. Are the Spurs going to bring Mamu back? His teammates all seem to love him. Great guy to have around the team, but does he fit on the roster still, or will it depend on all the other moves they make?

I like Mamu, but he doesn’t really have a defensive position. That being said, I have no objections to bringing him back on a short cheap deal, roster spots permitting.
