I see Houston couldn't hold on, and Detroit is letting their game slip away.

With Charlotte's win streak, this is a nice "for good measure" loss tonight, since it really looks unlikely we will catch Detroit or Houston. Those teams just aren't budging on keeping their 1 and 2 spots respectively.

Both dedicated to the tank imo.

Detroit dead set on losing until #1 is clinched.
Houston making sure they lock up 2nd.

Maybe will catch Houston. Spurs only possible win is against tanking Portland.

Would definitely be nice to. I'd like to get 2nd place, but will be grateful for 3rd of course.

They play against each other this Friday. Somebody has to win
If HOU wins and Spurs loses to Dubs, then HOU and Spurs are tied, giving the Spurs the 2nd worst record, with HOU having the better division record than Spurs, for whatever it means.

Has nothing to do with draft positioning. Ties are broken by a coin flip.

Too bad Detroit lost. Had they won, they'd be within 1 game from Houston, and they'd have done everything in their power to throw the game.
As it stands, losing means more to Houston than it does to Detroit, so the latter can afford to try and win the game as the worst record is within reach regardless.

Just need HOU to tie Spurs to at least give SA a coin toss scenario.

SA: GS, SAC, PHX, POR, MIN, DAL (6 games left) - Spurs can beat POR, MIN, DAL, but at least MIN/DAL need to win. But Spurs win 1-2 games max it looks like.

HOU: DET, Lakers, DEN, CHA, WAS (5 games left) - HOU has 3 winnable games, but doubtful they win all 3. Just need them to win against DET and/or CHA/WAS too. They will not beat DEN or Lakers on paper.

Best case is SA loses next 3 vs GS/SAC/PHX and HOU beat DET before losing to LA/DEN.

Spurs & HOU tied with SA playing POR/MIN/DAL - Spurs beat POR and lose to MIN/DAL means HOU just has to beat one of CHA or WAS

Same. Not really sure how it actually works (it's a matter of implementation and ultimately irrelevant), but you can use a single coin to sort an arbitrary number of teams, like this:
    1) Flip a coin for each team and par ion the original group into 2 subgroups: those who got heads (winner), and those who got tails (losers)
    2) Repeat procedure from 1 to further classify between each group, until each final class has only one team
You can sort 1 million teams with one coin following that procedure.

the record would only matter for the 2nd round. the first rd would be done by lottery of which the top 3 teams all have 14%. no reason to keep pushing for more losses.

Wrong. If teams fail to land a top 4 pick, their position is determined by record (worst to best), so it does matter. For instance: Detroit ends up worst, followed by Houston then Spurs. All three fail to land a top 4 pick (it's perfectly possible). Then Detroit picks 5, Houston 6, and San Antonio 7. So their first round pick can definitely be affected by their final record, even if they all finish bottom 3 in the standings and have equal chances at a top 4 pick.
