But the numbers show how better they are defensively when he is on the floor
Wemby should get DPoY but he won’t. The spurs are bad on defense as a team. What a wasted season of wembys defensive greatness. Would be the first rookie to win DPoY.
But the numbers show how better they are defensively when he is on the floor
Wemby is the real Lisan al-Gaib

We just have to keep pinching ourselves is this really real?!?
Wemby is great but sometimes I feel that the media is looking for any kind of stats to announce a record was broken.
Victor covers all of Luka’s flaws and vice versa. They would be a match made in heaven. It’ll never happen but we can dream I guess. KJ and Collins plus 6 FRPs. Who say no
As it was written!
I say yes and I'll throw in Benny Hinn's magic jacket too!
I agree which is why he should be. The other side is that no player has ever gotten the DPoY being on a poor defensive team. Like MVPs always come from winning teams (other than the westbrk MVP, which is a bloody joke). Well, at least none I can recall.
He was a Sochan missed dunk away from back-to-back 5x5 games.
Kareem: 41.2 and 43.8 minutes per game respectively, when he did it.
Olajuwon: 39.5 and 41.0 mpg.
Wemby: 29.0 mpg.
He's absolutely going to break basketball when he gets stronger, better endurance, better teammates around him, and the game slows down for him.
Just think, if Nephew didn’t do what he did we would have never been in the position to tank for this kid.
Yeah, he doesn’t get that pass from me.

Victor Wembanyama has more blocks + steals than any of the last 9 players in their DPOY-winning season… and there's still 14 games left
Wembanyama — 283 (and counting)
Jaren Jackson Jr — 254
Marcus Smart — 137
Rudy Gobert — 230
Giannis Antetokounmpo — 127
Draymond Green — 260
Kawhi Leonard — 199
Joakim Noah — 220
Marc Gasol — 219
Tyson Chandler — 145
And he’s averaging 10min less/game than most. Maybe more
It looks like the same process than before with Chet, people just taking their time to see the elephant in the room.
Victor needs to kill the debate the same way he did with Chet
Agreed, he is unquestionably the DPOY this year. What are they like 6th in the league when he's on the floor? Versus 21st or something overall? I remember seeing their defensive rating was 129 in games Wemby missed which is 9 points per 100 possessions worse than their 120 defensive rating last year which was the worst in NBA history. I don't know how that doesn't scream DPOY to take a historically terrible defense and lead them to sixth in the league when you're on the floor with them.
dont think he'll win because DPOY kinda gets the MVP treatment, ie being the best player on one of the best teams, or here, being the best defender on one of the top defensive teams. its almost always been that way iirc. tho im not sure nuggets had much of a defense when camby won with pure blocks
the weirdest was when they started using the team success stuff in the ROY discussions
of course they just say "spurs defense bad" and dont take one step to see "spurs defense good with wemby on the floor"
Seems like when it comes to the minutes argument, that also is going to be a for and against type of argument. Bodes well for ROY but not DPOY. Stay thirsty my friends!
Is Victor a top 15 player in the NBA this season? If he is, he should be All-NBA.
I don't remember DPOY typically being best defensive player on a good team. Used to be really simplistic, like who got the most blocked shots. I think in the last 10 years it's a little more nuanced with advanced stats. But I would say Wemby checks basic and advanced stats to win based on historical precedence.
Good food for the Wemby DPOY fire from our old friend Kirk Goldsberry
I'm not a basketball genius like these media guys are, but I don't think it's even close. His impact on defense is the largest in the league.
The way he’s surged since February I think has changed this discussion. Because, he should have been an all star if he was the DPOY front runner. Which he was probably not, a month ago.
This loss is on him tonight. Led the team in turnovers and did not shoot the ball well tonight.
