Imagine being such a bitter racist -eater and cousin- er that you’re bitter about your hometown team winning the lottery because it means their liberal coach might enjoy more success.

They clone Shaeden Sharpe, change the rules so that fifteen Shaeden Sharpes can play at one time, and all of them are traded for Wembanyama.

Bruce played in France when he was coming up. Tony Parker was a kid who would come to the games with his dad, who would give Bowen advice and they became friendly. Tony was excited to be drafted by San Antonio because he could play with Bruce. There is a video on EDIT: the NBA app about Bowen that is pretty good. I guess they don't mind saying good things about him now that he is an employee.
to piggyback on obstructed, Tony also said si himself during his jersey retirement that Bruce was his “ally” during that first year when Pop was super hard on him and Timmy didn’t talk to hI’m (lol).

and thens he gone. Very rare that guys like Duncan and Robinson come along and stay in a small market,,,,,the chances of it happening a 3rd time for San Antonio are very slim. The dude will split for a big market just like Shaq did from Orlando,,,Durant from OKC,,,,LeBron from Cleveland,,, , Kobe almost left a big market for another big market in Chicago and Duncan was dangerously close to leaving for Orlando. Wemby has already served notice to the small market Spurs that he expects to win les immediately. If you dont think it can happen,,,,go ask all those fans in other cities when their generational #1 pick left town,,,,
The reality is these Spurs are not Duncan and Robinson’s Spurs. The market has shifted. With SA, Austin, Mexico and South Texas and France and Argentina in the mix, the market is bigger than you could imagine. The world is small, but the leadership figured that out long ago and that’s why todays “SA” market is bigger than you think. Memphis, New Orleans and all the others don’t have that to offer. Heck, not even Chicago. Welcome to 2023.

Fans will follow teams not in their market. The Thunder hand a ton of fans who loved the big three years when they were little kids and still follow them. People who have never set foot in Oklahoma.

Spurs market will rise with Wembanyama. They also already started to market the team in Austin, Mexico, etc. Add to that that the narrative "the Spurs are boring" will be gone soon with Wembanyama on the team and us playing a high paced game. There will be plenty of dunks and blocks and the team will be fun to watch

During the early 2010’s the Spurs were huge as far west as Albuquerque and were darlings of the Nate Silver crowd.

How is it set up for individual teams to monetize that attention outside their markets?

The 1970s Spurs were not considered boring. They had a run and gun offense.

I'd like to see the Spurs get some athleticism and not try to win with a half court walk the ball up setup on offense style.

I live in the same town as Ghost Writer although I've never met him. He no longer comes to this site since he got married.

I used to live in SA moved there in Sept 1973 so followed the Spurs from the beginning. They were a run and gun exciting team. Just didn't have the franchise center that could put them over the top.
They were robbed of going to the finals in 1979.

Isn't that cool? I never heard that either until I saw the video. Local Spurs media is lame and national media never liked the team. These are stories we should have heard about years ago.

I don't think the boring label has ever been due to anything other than media members not being able to get a sound bite out of Timmy. The '99 team was a juggernaut, the '03 team were comeback kids, the 05 finals was amazing and 07 was domination of the best player in the world. Boring was what people who never watched the Spurs repeated to be edgy.

Folks don't realize how popular the Spurs are outside of the US. All these years of success with international players weren't in vain. In today's globalized social media era, the Spurs need to take advantage of this.

With Wemby now on the team it is the perfect time to capitalize and expand on that international popularity. They're on a prime situation to do so, hope they make a conscious effort in this regard.

If Paris had an nba team id worry

The biggest factor to lose wemby is if leaving yields better talent. Lebron really pioneered using free agency to get the team he wants. If the spurs bring good teammates like Jokic and giannis have, theres no reason to leave. Maybe LA, NYK or miami manage to clear their books and offer a team of quality, then wemby can leave. But its a hard to get cap space and talent. LA would need an incredible patience to do it.

I actually think the Spurs are one of the most popular teams on a worldwide scale. Probably top 5 out of all NBA teams

Yep. This is how it works. I’m a born and bred Australian. Born in 88. Always loved the NBA. First favourite player as a kid was Larry Johnson. Then we had the 99 Finals broadcast in Australia and I watched Tim Duncan kick Larry Johnson’s ass and I became a massive fan, he became my favourite player, and I became a Spurs fan and still am. To the point I went to San Antonio every year between 2015-2019 in April-May for the playoffs.
