    I'm impressed Padres traded Soto

Thought they were gonna ride him. Reports of players not liking him.

    Xander specifically

WTF is Ohtani thinking deferring $680 million of that money to be paid without interest from 2034-43? That's lunacy even if inflation was low. Good for the Dodgers but damn talk about a huge paycut over his market value.

Ohtahnis value system is he believes the 40-50 million a year he makes off endorsments etc easily enables him to put the 680 mil salary away for next decade.
This will allow the Dodgers to sign other players. Oht is one of the few pros who sincerely do put Championship above cash.
To an extent all players have to go for cash. But with these insane amounts being given to modern day players, it's good to see someone put winning back into the mix.

Timmy Dunkar was also one of the few greats who did.

F*ck, now Scherzer is out until June/July next year. He'll be 40 by then coming off of back surgery. If the Rangers don't resign Monty, I don't think they make the playoffs next season tbh

Ground breaking contract. He can opt out if the LAD execs leave. Which might happen in year 7+

Dodgers cheating the luxury tax. His yearly hit will be $40 instead of $70

For the first time in his MLB career, Ohtani will be booed.

Ohtani might have suffered his 2nd Tommy John surgery. I wager it wasn't full and just cautionary but LAD is low on starters. They have the prospects to acquire some more like Glasnow.

Right now I don't see a le contender in 2024

No player has ever returned from a 2nd Tommy and been elite

Dodgers just did another insane signing worth 325 millions for 12 years.

The luxury tax is a joke in the mlb. You shouldn’t be able to spend a billion dollars on two players and then still be able to brush it off like nothing just happened.

    Luxury Tax.

"Mets ($101 million). San Diego ($39.7 million), the New York Yankees ($32.4 million), the Dodgers ($19.4 million), Philadelphia ($6.98 million), Toronto ($5.5 million), Atlanta ($3.2 million) and World Series champion Texas ($1.8 million). The Blue Jays, Braves and Rangers are paying tax for the first time."

Dodgers are taking massive gambles here though.

Yama ends up mediocre & Glasnow injured; they are screwed.

Have no idea why teams ignored
    Wacha
    11-2 with Sox
14-4 with super sucky Pads team that gave zero run support.
    3.22 ERA both years.

Instead giving mega bucks to Glasnow.
    Some good previous years. OTOH:
    10-7 last year.
2-6 lifetime playoff record with 5.70 ERA.

I mean what in the ?

    Score by KC Royals.

Other teams complete re s for passing on Wacha for 2 years 32 mil @ 16 per year.

We’re fine with Diaz and the new catcher they just signed. Another starter would be fine and another bat.

Hader was the biggest issue between Padres manager & GM

Preller told Melvin he wasn't allowed to pitch him more than 1 inning. Agreement to Hader's agent.

Guy is still elite but can't go 4 outs. Eye raising contract.

His agent told the Stros he is willing to pitch beyond 1 inning. Not that it matters with Abreu-Pressly-Hader

Hader is a huge pickup imo. Prolly puts Houston back in the driver's seat for the AL.

Yeah fortifying the bullpen is always a difference maker. Games might legitimately be over after 6 innings. Need one more starter and maybe a bat. Now I’m greedy and want Snell too

but but but i thought the astros built the right way? they only stack through the farm, they never buy players or championships! their payroll could never take them into the top 10 or compare to what the rangers spent to buy their championship!

Braves/AA has a specific strategy and Closer is always one of our highest earners

But that's also because Snitker is old fashioned
