I was in Deutschland for 2006 and now I'll be back as resident. Alot has changed - the format, the locals and die Mannschaft expectations.

Nike made it happen with their $100M offer. Adidas likely raised theirs but have been enjoying a discount at $50M
Couple years ago they dropped the "Die Mannschaft" label. It's a rebranding
I personally feel Adidas has a more consistent product.
