I just think it's more meaningful in that it [used to be] voted by coaches rather than media members. I see that this changed in 2013, but that means that most of Tim's selections were by coaches.

Coaches are biased too, so they probably had some "hangover effect" from Kobe's younger days. However, Tim holds the all-time record of 15 All-defense selections.

I actually think media members are better voters than coaches. Media members will actually take the time to analyze what they are voting, coaches have more important things to care about so they just throw the most known names without giving it a second thought. The problem with media members back in the days was that they would only look at counting numbers like blocks, steals and rebounds; media members now look at advanved metrics, which is a better parameter.
