Amen to the bolded part. Best time/place to be alive.

Life is much simpler over here, apart from the migrant crisis in certain countries.

    Pros:

-Regardless of how high or low you are on the totem pole, you'll get more than 2 weeks off a year (). In America, you're either an unwitting slave working menial jobs or you are so successful that making money becomes a drug unto itself and you enslave yourself trying to hustle 24/7. Then your conversations with friends/family become all about money and the rat race and you find you're an empty vessel.

-The food (i mean your average, everyday groceries or middling cafes/restos) are 10x better than anything in the States. Markets with fresh goods, selections of cheeses and other products that aren't still in date 2 years later. You'd be surprised if most of the food you bought here would last even a week on your shelves.

-The women are women and behave like normal women. Not to say there aren't exceptions to every rule, but this isn't America where those exceptions are celebrated under forced normalization, lest you be fired or enroll in DEI courses. Germany, to be fair, is definitely fast-tracking some of the gayness but there's still plenty of pushback from the normal people so you have a few years still before you're inundated with the bull . The men are becoming poofs like the new age effeminate American male, but you see a drastic shift when you go East of Germany (Poland, Czechia, eastern european countries). In the latter areas, the male population becomes more like older generations in America. Stoic, hard-working, and not dumping their emotional baggage on friends and strangers, unsolicited. The women are women everywhere (at least from my experience). Proud, loyal, are more than capbable of self-sufficiency and independence but value relationships and the traditional roles of relationships.

-Families stick together. You actually know and speak with your neighbors.

-Although you won't come across any Jamals, Charvarius's, or Lil-Jordans out here, there are plenty of gypsies and unacclimated migrants that will give you a similar vibe. Luckily, no migrants around me but almost every city or town has a gypsy section/quarter. If you're looking at any of these cities/towns from satellite images, look for the neighborhood that resembles Grozny or Mariupol right after occupation and that will be your pikey quarter.

-Travel is exponentially cheaper because you're already in Europe. So many locations to see, enough to fill up half a lifetime. All a nice road trip or 1-1.5hr flight away for a fraction of what it would cost to visit these same locations in the States.

-No real tipping culture. As someone who would just automatically give 25% to everybody back in my teens and 20s, I realize how stupid that was now. Service sucks in the States, be it restaurants, car washes, tailor, barber, pretty much anything. Some crafty Jewish business owner back in the day found an ingenious way to place the wage obligation of their employees on the public/paying customer...and now that philosophy is on steroids in America. We tip people for putting food in bags, cutting our hair, or any other unworthy task that's already in their job description. Tipping should be a recognizance of exemplary service. In Europe, yes the tip rate is lower <10% most places, but people will go above and beyond when they get service in kind.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Cons:

-Your earning potential in the States is much, much higher depending on your job/skillset--but most importantly--work ethic. America is still the land of opportunity for those who want to get rich quick or put the time in. It's still a brutal, listless existence but I'll move back in a couple years to take care of aging family and whatnot. Europe is all about your days off, whereas America is all about days on. Not saying one way is the right/wrong way, but there's a lot less miserable faces wandering around the streets of this continent.

-Warm/room temp soda and beer. ING gross. Also, i'm not much of a soda drinker anymore but their carbonation is here. If you crack open a bottle (no matter the size), finish it that night or it will be flat the next day.

-Things move more slowly, so it can often take days or weeks to get certain things done (certain government services, etc.).

-Not every flat/house you'll buy/rent will have AC. Make sure you get that, the world ain't getting any cooler.

There's a bunch of both I'm missing, especially cons since I'm forgetting some due to bias. I'm happier though since I moved away from the States in 2014. Health, wealth and love have all improved drastically since changing continents, so I wish you more of the same.
Sons, I'm probably right behind you but struggle with the same thing. Aging family, that has always treated me well, is getting up there so I have probably 7 years or so to live wherever until I'll be tethered back to the Jewnited States of America. Biggest advice to young men looking to expat is to get a in demand skill , that is needed everywhere and can be done remotely IMO. At the very least, as long as you can call up the Uhaul when the dindus when move in you're ahead of the game IMO

I've always recommended to white people who suffer from depression and other suburban white type mental health issues, that they should live in a dindu-infested apartment for a couple of years. Instead of the 'cold plunge' it's the 'Tyrone plunge'. Really any apartment within a 20 mile radius of Dallas, TX should do the trick imho. I don't recall the bloodwork but I'd assume my testosterone was at its highest the years that I lived in Dallas and Houston for this reason tbh

obviously no one cares. It's sad that you have to do a forum and social media farewell tour like they don't have internet where you're pretending to be going.

    Strong post

There are a few fundamental elements in play
    - Europe has heritage and almost everyone is still connected to their family. A non foreigner/tourist that is lone wolf is viewed as toxic or has engrained bad genes

    - USA offers more personal freedom to financially prosper but also hang yourself. Europe has safety nets that both save but also restrict. This results in less crazed shooters or even suicides IMO.

    - Avocado vs Coconut. Going back to family and then extended family... it's harder to break into native/local circles. But when you do you have someone you can count on like family.

Pretty much. There’s good and bad to both and I still love the States—or maybe just the idea of it. I go back only once a year now and the people are insufferable. DDL’s “jig doing a jig, fine American mess, etc.” speech from Gangs of New York is immediately what comes to mind.

We’re around the same age so we’re probably looking at the same timeline (7-10 years) of having to factor in family care as a major part of our lives. I’m fine with it because I was similarly brought up not wanting for anything.

One thing I forgot that is a con for both the States and Europe: Any tourist attraction you visit feels like you just walked on to the set of Slumdog Millionaire or The Joy Luck Club. The difference in Europe is that there are so many hidden gems off the beaten path that you can avoid all the jabbering piss & colored immigrants
