Like, what's Castles semi realistic ceiling? If everything went well, his broken shot becomes good for example, without going into extremes. His defense is Smart level. What player do you think Castle becomes?

He should be able to make All rookie 1st team if given enough mins.

Maybe it's just the letdown of the trade... but I feel ya. I like Castle a lot, but not as a PG. But it appears that is where we are going. Your Wesley/Branham comment is spot on. For a team so devoid of talent, kicking the can down the road to the next decade just seems... off.
Feel like it's worth giving Castle a real shot at PG and never liked the idea of drafting him #4 and then Carter or Dillingham #8. Was rooting more for Holland or Cody Williams at #8 (didn't expect Buzelis would still be there) so both picks could play significant minutes.

It's going to be Rob Dillingham five times.

Butler was a lot rawer than Castle when he came in the league

A lot has to happen but Castle's ceiling could be higher technically at least

A mix of Jrue, Kawhi, and Butler. All-Star and All Defense.
I'm close to this. Jrue with more juice on offense, maybe not quite Jimmy but he's more crafty that Jrue. IF he can put his shot together, that is.

I don’t think anyone will ever be similar to Kawhi.

it’s easy to say Kawhi as a comparison for any young player with two way skills. But what separated Kawhi from anyone else and possibly anyone ever is his physical profile. He’s almost an anomaly as much as Wemby is with his wingspan and hand size ratio. Combine that with the way nearly all of his offensive moves look like they have been rehearsed a million times, like a robot doing it… it’s why his efficiency levels are through the roof. He can command every inch of his body to do the same exact motion every time.

Castle won’t be anything like that. He resembles Butler a lot just by how physical he is and how unbothered he is by physical contact.

I'm rapidly warming up to Point Castle because 1) I'm really excited we got him and 2) that's very likely the direction we're going.

Love his fire and skill set he already has. I just promised myself I'd stop hoping for prospects to find their shot. So I hope he does find it because then he'd be the player we desperately need.

Yeah, Kawhi comparisons are way too casual in the NBA world. The guy at his peak easily outplayed Giannis, Jimmy Butler, and Joel Embiid on his way to a le. At his healthiest, Kawhi was in the conversation for best player on the planet.

I have no idea who I'd pick. Some player who scores a lot, like Knecht. Could be Dillingham, but he probably will have a fairly limited role given their aspirations. I could see a dark horse like Carrington at the Wiz. Hmm... I don't think Sheppard will get quite enough touches.

There are few players I think will bust through to enough playing time and role to really pop. Except for Castle. I do think he'll get a lot of run and his role will be significant. Plus his background will get him operational pretty fast.

Holland might be a decent bet for ROY. There shouldn't be anything standing in his way for major playing time, and he's the kind of player who will put up some highlight reel plays while posting some low-efficiency counting stats... although I will say Bickerstaff seems a real enough coach, not one of these tank masters, so maybe he doesn't foster that.

Clingan is another possibility. He could have a Walker Kessler-like defensive impact and put up a decent enough scoring average... assuming they move away from Ayton.

For a deep dark horse... how about Edey? Assuming Ja doesn't lose his damn mind again in the offseason, he'll be put in a good position with a well structured team, should get heavy minutes, and he isn't an unformed ball of clay who needs to learn how to play basketball.

Sarr and Risacher at top odds seem like sucker bets.

The BBIQ part of this cannot be understated. He’ll quickly be one of our best players just based on that alone. Besides Tre and Wemby, the rest of our roster has a dearth of BB intelligence.
I hope it translates, tbh. Coming out of college Vassell and Sochan were also thought to be high IQ prospects.

Hollland will be a 3rd option behind Cade and Ivey. RoY usually goes to a player that has the chance to be a #1 option right away. Bub Carrington could be a dark horse if Wizards get rid of Poole.

Holland is a good call. Edey is interesting. I don't think Carrington is ready for a lot of productive minutes just yet.

I don't see Castle being on the RoY race, tbh. He will be behind Wemby, Vassell and Keldon in the pecking order. Maybe even behind Sochan and Tre too. I'm not expecting much from Castle offensively in his rookie season, tbh.

great thoughts all re: ROY hopefuls

Knecht probably has the best overlap of counting stats generating player type, market exposure in LA, NBA ready day 1 skills/age and likely avail mins. That's my guess for ROY too

The rookie in the headlines the most will get ROY.

Chet was on a winning team and did highlight reel worthy things, that’s why he was in the running this past year. It would be his easily if Wemby didn’t exist.

If the Spurs become an “up and coming young team” this year and Castle is impactful, showing off great defensive play while playing off Wemby really well, then it’s his.

Risacher will have no chance because he’s a spot up shooter. Sarr will struggle to play basketball because he has no feel. Reed likely will come off the bench so he won’t have a chance to put up numbers. Buzelis might not get enough touches with DeMar and Lavine on the team. Clingan has a decent chance, I think. He doesn’t have much obstacles in his way and he plays the right way. I think they’ll bring Dillingham too slow in Minnesota. If Edey starts and Morant does a good job feeding him, he might get an easy 20 and 10 statline.

In the end, I think it’s a threeway race between Castle, Clingan, and Edey.

since it’s the second straight year where centers are the most dominant out of their rookie class, it might raise the value of the center prospects in the 2025 draft.

They'll do Risacher so they can say "second French ROY #1 in a row" on ESPN

I think Keldon’s gone. Tre and Castle will barely be on the court together, IMO. Castle will have more onball opportunities than Sochan will.

I know Castle and Tre won't share the court much, I'm just saying Tre will probably post better stats (even if he starts off the bench). I don't see the 5th or 6th best scorer of a team winning RoY, tbh.

Even if Castle does his job extremely well and is a great defender & a net positive on the offensive end, he won't get the attention of a scorer... even a relatively inefficient scorer. ROY rarely goes to a solid glue guy with good impact numbers.

There was a “Derrick White wave” leading up to the end of All Star voting last year. Derrick got his love from a lot of the media. This will be the same wave that could get the ROY Castle train going. There’s a section of the media and NBA fanbase that loves defense and smart play. All it takes to ignite it all is to have one of these NBA player podcasters to show Castle some love for his all around play, IMO.
