Aug. 12, 2004 — Cory Burnell has given up on ever seeing the U.S. government adopt a conservative Christian agenda, so he and others who share his beliefs are trying to take matters into their own hands.

Burnell, 28, is one of the founders of ChristianExodus.org, a group that hopes to gather conservative Christians for a series of mass moves to South Carolina. The goal is to bring enough voters to the state to establish a government based on the Ten Commandments and conservative Christian values.

And if the federal government doesn't like it, Burnell said he and the other members of the board have not ruled out the possibility of the state seceding from the United States.

That's the same model that was used to turn Vermont from one of the most conservative and Republican states in the Union to one of the most ed up.

The goal is to bring enough voters to the state [South Carolina]to establish a government based on the Ten Commandments and conservative Christian values.
Ridiculous! My wild-ass demographic sensibilities tell me that sooner, not later, senior citizen Jews will cop out on the migration south, to Florida, and create a hanging-chad controversy in South Carolina.

    I could be wrong.

I support those who fight for the mere mention of the Ten Comdments in public because *any* reverent mention of God in public is better than what the ACLUzers are fighting for...*no* mention of God in public by law.

However, I happen to know that the Law of God was written for the ungodly, for those who don't have any sense not to commit abominable things. It's there to convict and condemn the ungodly, to perhaps cause repentance and lead them to Christ. Well, what about Christians? True believers don't need the law or anyone to tell them not to bow down to man-made lifeless statues and pray to them for comfort, etc., etc. They stand on higher ground.

I don't think it sends a clear message for Christians to demand that the Ten Commandments be made the law of the land, when the Gospel is based on a free gift of grace, a pardon. I can understand Orthodox Jewish people fighting for the Ten Commandments to be made the law of the land, but not necessarily Christians.

I support Alabama Chief Justice Moore's Cons utional right to have a stone that includes the Ten Commandments, among other writings, displayed in his courthouse at his personal discretion as the state court rules provided. I see that as a different matter entirely than Christians trying to bring themselves under the Law again.
