OH, that's a good one. For our one month anniversary (we don't count every month, but the first month of marriage seemed important), we hadn't spent a weekend together yet. So SFIE switched his shift at work without telling me and left, as usual, went down the street and bought me flowers (red carnations, because they didn't have yellow roses) and came back home to surprise me. It was only the third time in our entire relationship he'd bought me flowers. Sniffle.
But, as nice, and lovely, and thoughtful as that was, I'd much rather have my husband as he is, constantly doing little thoughtful things to show me how much he loves me. As corny as that language of love thing is, acts of service is my language, and I feel much more loved when he does those little things and helps around the house than if he bought me lots of gifts.

Back when my wife and I were engaged, I was working a job in Rosenberg outside of Houston. She was going to have her bridal portrait done and I wanted her to have real pearls on instead of the fake ones she was planning on wearing, so a day before the pictures, my father was returning from Hong Kong business trip and I had him pick up a strand of pearls from a jeweler there we had bought stuff from before (they're a mite cheaper there). So I left work at 5:30 that afternoon, drove to San Antonio, had to wait on his delayed flight, left San Antonio around 11:00 pm and drove to Ganado (about 3 hours from San Antonio). Once I got to Ganado a little after 2 in the morning, I had a key to her vehicle (which was actually mine) and left her pearls and a card on the steering wheel. I drove back to my apartment for a couple of hours sleep before going back into work that morning.
He puts up with my and I put up with his.
And since we've been together for 20 years, I guess it's working for us!
