MLB is F'ed up if a team in one of the top 5 media markets in the US cannot afford to pay a player like Beltran.
Wow, my Astros have knotted up the NLCS...go freakin' figure. Oh, and the Texans won as well, but that's another thread.
Some thoughts here about the NLCS, the season...next season...any season:
Carlos Beltrán is a freaking monster, a one-man wrecking crew who must be inked long term by Drayton McClaine at whatever cost (well, short of an Alex Rodriguez contract). Carlos would take a little bit less to stay in Houston, but he will not be low-balled.
Back in focus, go Astros!!!

Yeah, but look at Beltran's agent.
Scott Boras.
Beltran will be an Astro.
The guy is having the best post season in history so far, and they still have at least 2 more games to play. If the Astros advance, his records will never be broken.
Beltran is ing amazing.
Berkman has been just about as good though.
The Astros need Backe to get the job done tomorrow. Bad.
Backe will pitch a gem tomorrow and the Astros will take the 3-2 lead. Bank on it.And, I predict that Backe comes up big at the plate too.
The Mariners or Yankees will sign Beltran. They will spend the money this off-season. The Astros will not.
MB, you are so right. MLB is completely f-ed up, just look at the Yankees payroll vs. the Kansas City Royals...Btw, I actually do think the Astros will find a way to get a deal done with Beltran. Let's just hope he doesn't go Richard Hidalgo and eat 50 hot dogs a day after getting that phat contract. lol lol
The guys at Fox have said speculation is that the Yankees will land Beltran this offseason, since they will be the only ones who can pony up the money.
ing jim with the goddamn jinx
Why would he want to go to the Yankees and be just one of many stars? He can be the man in Houston for years to come and have a chance to be a part of a great team for years with all the young talent on their team.
He'll go to the Yankees because Scott Boras is his agent and the Yankees are the only team who can overpay him and still afford other great players.
Houston could overpay him, but then resigning Oswalt or Berkman or Miller would be difficult.
