Ortiz-Shamrock III Possible for Florida in Fall
    Monday, August 07, 2006
    by Greg Savage ([email protected])

As Sherdog.com reported on Friday, the Ultimate Fighting Championship has been negotiating with o Ortiz (Pictures) and Ken Shamrock (Pictures) to promote a third installment of their blood-feud.

    Apparently the talks went well.

UFC president Dana White is quoted in Sunday’s Las Vegas Review-Journal that the trilogy-making bout will take place.

“[Ortiz-Shamrock II] had a lot of buildup and a lot of hype and it ended in a minute,” White told Kevin Iole. “Nobody got to see the fight they paid to come to see, so we’re going to give it to them.”

Sherdog.com has learned through sources close to both fighters that the show was scheduled for October 10 at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood, Fla., and would have aired live on eTV.

However, there has been a holdup on securing the venue and the particulars of the event remain up in the air at this time.

According to one source, the card has been finalized but no contracts have been sent out to any of the fighters due to the venue issues.

Honestly, does anybody really see this ending in a different manner than the first two?

I didn't want to see it, but if they're going to put it on e that's fine with me...as long as it doesn't headline a PPV!! I'd love to see Shamrock get smashed beyond recognition so all the morons crying about the early stoppage in the last fight can STFU...

in bigger news, possibly on the same card!! BJ Penn vs Kuniyoshi Hironaka!!

    http://www.sherdog.com/news/news.asp?n_id=5261

I am one of those idiots who thinks the match was ended waaaaay to quickly. Look, I am not delusional, I am 100% sure Ortiz would have kicked the out of Shamrock barring a flood, but to end it like that sucked.

Shamrock was un- ing-stoppable in the UFC's infancy (im sure leonard will have something to say about all that....lol). I remember watching wtfpwn nearly any and all comers.

Except (if I remember) Gracie. Gracie beat him....and just about everyone else too.

I agree it was a little early...could've waited 3 more seconds / 3 more elbows and I guess everybody would've been happy?? I'm just tired of seeing people that act like Shammy had a chance given the situation he was in...the ref did him a favor if anything...

Ooooooh no, he had no chance in my mind. But sometimes, even in defeat, a fighter may feel like he truly gave it his all, lost the fight and be content knowing he never half-assed his way thru it all. There was a time when Shamrock was a dominant force in MMA and he has alot of pride.

Let him go out on his terms...not standing on his feet, getting hit with a couple of clean elbows and stopping the fight.

Just my opinion. o is going to destroy him...again. Just not by pussy stoppage. Im sure Ortiz was even surprised by the early stoppage.

    Shamrock needs to quit.

Back in the day Gracie was unbeatable. Gracie beat just about everyone in the UFC during it's early years.

Shamrock announced that he's retiring after this fight...

and Vera vs. Mir was never going to be on UFC 62, it was just a typo on Vera's website.

FRANK MIR VS 'THE TRUTH' AT UFC 65
Wednesday, August 09, 2006 - by Al Yu for MMAWeekly.com

Brandon Vera vs Frank Mir at UFC 65!

Sources close to MMAWeekly have confirmed that former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir will take on up-and-comer Brandon “The Truth” Vera at UFC 65. This match-up, rumored to be scheduled for UFC 63, has been moved back to add a marquee fight to the UFC 65 card.

Mir (9-2) is coming off of a victory over Dan Christison at UFC 61 ‘Bitter Rivals’. The former champ came into the fight unprepared and earned an uninspired decision over the former Ultimate Fighter contestant. Having just fought in July, it’ll be interesting to see if Frank will have the proper time to train for this fight.

Brandon Vera (7-0) will risk his undefeated streak against his toughest test to date. “The Truth” is coming off of an impressive submission win over the tough Assuerrio Silva at UFC 60.

A win for Mir would revitalize his career and put him one step closer to le contention. A loss could put him at a crossroads. For Vera, this will be the significant fight that he’s been seeking. If he is victorious, he would join Jeff Monson as top contenders for current UFC heavyweight champion Tim Sylvia’s belt.

after Mir's performance (and appearance!) at UFC 61 vs Dan "The Can" Christison, I think they've decided that Mir's comeback is over. Give the guy credit for getting back in the ring, but Vera will handle him easily...

UFC 62 is pretty damn weak...

The UFN a week from tomorrow doesn't have a le fight, but the top 5 fights are more appealing overall (to me anyway) than UFC 62's top 5 fights...

LOISEAU FACES SWICK AT UFC 63
    Monday, August 14, 2006 - MMAWeekly.com

David Loiseau vs. Mike Swick At UFC 63
    By Damon Martin, MMAWeekly.com

The middleweight division in the UFC is starting to get jam packed with fighters like Anderson Silva, Nathan Marquardt, and of course champion Rich Franklin among the ranks, and two of the top compe ors in the weight class are set to square off in Los Angeles at UFC 63 when former #1 contender, David “The Crow” Loiseau takes on Ultimate Fighter veteran, Mike “Quick” Swick.

UFC fans haven’t seen David Loiseau since the loss he suffered in his le shot versus Franklin in March of this year, but the always formidable striker from Canada will look to make an impressive return against Swick.

“This is my comeback fight and I’m very focused and motivated to put on a great show,” said Loiseau about his match-up with Swick.

Loiseau is no stranger to stand-up fights having some of the best striking skills in the division, not to mention a set of devastating elbows that can end a fight at any moment. His mix of kickboxing and unorthodox striking, like the spinning back kick that basically ended Charles McCarthy’s night when he fought Loiseau at UFC 53, are a dangerous combination for any opponent.

Swick has started to gain a fairly notorious reputation as of late for having such lightning quick hands, but Loiseau doesn’t seem overly concerned.

“My hands are just as fast as his or faster,” said Loiseau.

The level of compe ion in the 185lb weight class is starting to get very good and Swick’s name is starting to be mentioned as a possible le contender, and a win over a top fighter like Loiseau would do nothing but solidify that position. While many have still questioned the level of fighters that Swick has defeated since leaving the Ultimate Fighter show, his heart and desire to climb up the ranks can’t be denied.

This middleweight bout will serve as an undercard fight to the main event at UFC 63 pitting current welterweight champion, Matt Hughes versus Georges St. Pierre. Both Swick and Loiseau are currently in training for what should be a spectacular fight at 185lbs.

You forget that he was bludgeoned to near death by Dan "The Beast" Severn. Well not really, but Dan did win over him.

I like Swick also, but... I see this as another Leben/Silva incident. It's another TUF guy who, while good and always improving, isn't ready yet to be pushed into a fight with one of the best in his weight class. I'd rather see Swick/Leben II. Let's see who wins the rematch...

If Swick wins, he gets a le shot with the winner of Silva - Franklin. (according to Chris Leben in an interview on UFC.com)

If he loses I bet we do see Swick vs Leben...

Here are a few notes before the Ultimate Fight Night tomorrow...

    http://www.ufc.com/index.cfm?fa=MultiMedia.video

    Diego Sanchez interview...
    http://www.ufc.com/index.cfm?fa=news.detail&gid=3064

    A couple notable quotes...

“I definitely think he is my toughest opponent,” said Sanchez. “I’ve always known that styles make fights, and ever since I got off the Ultimate Fighter show, I wanted to fight Karo Parisyan. I’ve always known my wrestling was better than his, and he ain’t gonna take me down with that judo crap, and I can outstrike him. I’ve been waiting a long time to get a knockout on my record, but I’ve been playing it smart. I’m not just gonna go in and stand in there with someone if I’m better than them on the ground.”

“I’m still hungry,” he said. “I want to be the guy that takes Matt Hughes out. I want to be the guy that finishes him, and sends him home with a retirement bag. They think that’s rude and a bad thing to say, but that’s what I want to do. I want to be the guy that ends the reign and starts it over. If someone does that to me someday, then that’s my destiny, but I’m gonna be the guy that comes in and takes over this welterweight division and gets out of my contract undefeated – the Golden Boy of MMA. My dream is to take our sport to a level that’s never been reached. I want it to be as big as soccer worldwide, with stadiums full of people going crazy like they do for soccer.”

I'm not a huge Diego fan, but I wouldn't mind seeing him win so he'd be a step closer to getting smashed by Hughes...

does Shamrock have a death wish?
No. He just truly hates Ortiz with a passion. Can't really blame him either. Ortiz always acts like a punk and talks to him like he's a nobody. Shamrock was one of the original badasses of UFC. He and a few others are the reason this sport became so popular in the beggining. He was good. Very good. But punks like Ortiz would rather talk rather than give the ol' school pioneers their props. Sad really. I know it's highly unlikely, but I hope Shamrock knocks his ass out before riding off into the sunset.

True, he was a very damn good fighter till the BJJ wave rolled in.

Ortiz is a wad. I was ing waiting on the fight when it came on and it ended in less the two minutes...needless to say, all of us watching it were in awe. Seriously man, that shouldn't have been called so soon.

Not saying he should "bend over" for anyone. But I've always believed that you should pay respects to the elders. Especially the ones who have paved the road that you're traveling. This is something Ortiz has never done. He'd rather talk and talk down to em' as if they were meaningless scrubs.

You have to give respect to get respect. Ortiz hasn't given any. Therefore, he isn't worthy of any.

I am also one who cannot stand Ortiz. I give the guy credit, he is a badass in the octagon. But that does not give him the right to be a y bas . I think he should not only respect his elders, but respect the other fighters who are trying to make a name for themselves. He is a poor sportsman and I long for the day to see him get his ass handed to him again. I knew Shamrock would not beat Ortiz but I sure wanted to see it.
