This is actually the whole reason why the french are there to stop such a bombing, regardless of if any french soldiers were killed or not. Both the loyalists and the rebels, after much fighting went to the UN to ask for help, they set up a cease fire, then brokered an agreement between the two sides to permenantly stop the violence, then sent in peacekeepers (of which the french are part) to enforce the ceasefire. France's actions were backed by the UN security council, of which our good ol' U.S. of A. is a part of, so even your boy Jr. agrees.
Now, some differences between what they are doing there and what we are doing in Iraq. We were not asked by anyone since shortly after the gulf war to come into Iraq. Definitely not by both sides. The last party to ask for our help was the Kurds, but since we had the No Fly Zones they had no need for our ground support, as they were pretty autonomous. We do not have the mandate of the UN, and we have 1, maybe 2 if your stretching it, major allies.
