The stations attempted to get clarification as to context permissability for using the F-bomb, and were unable to. In today's prude-happy world, I wouldn't run the risk of fines and/or license revocation, either. The contract prohibits them from bleeping or overdubbing, and ABC will not let them run it later.
I think they should change that law that says everyone must buy a television and watch it. Which amendment was that again?
They are showing it here in San Antonio...I just saw the promo for it right now on ABC.

I turned it on at 7:04 and they were already at the point where they were at top of the hill and shooting the flame thrower into the bunker. I remeber that scene taking way more than 4 minutes.
I understand the objection to showing Private Ryan in its unexpurgated version. How dare ABC telecast a movie that tries to capture and accurately depict the horrors of war both in terms of the images shown and the language used.

Well, I can also understand the concern of parents not wanting to flip past a channel with their kids in the room to see someone's torso being dragged across the beach.
However, I would prefer if the gov't stayed out of it... If there's public outrage, so be it. Let them make their statements by choosing not to watch ABC.
When I first saw the headlines I thought they were talking about "Shaving Ryan's Privats". That's a whole nuther movie!
As expected
The FCC received complaints about ABC's broadcast and will review them to decide whether to open an investigation, a spokeswoman said Friday.
The FCC should just go away.
