The San Antonio Spurs begin their 2025 Rodeo Road Trip tonight in Memphis against the Grizzlies. The Spurs, who have a record of 21-25, will have their hands full against a 33-16 Grizzlies squad.
San Antonio won’t play at home again until March 2nd. This year’s Rodeo Road Trip is a bit different, however. While the Spurs will play 12 straight games away from San Antonio, they will play two home games in Austin. Right after the All-Star break, the Spurs play the Phoenix Suns on Feb. 20 and the Detroit Pistons on Feb. 21.
The Grizzlies have been red hot lately. They are 8-1 in their last nine games. Memphis has the second best record in the Western Conference and the fourth best record in the entire NBA.
De’Aaron Fox Officially a Spur
The Spurs have announced that they have officially acquired De’Aaron Fox in a three-team deal that sent away Zach Collins, Tre Jones, Sidy Cissoko and a handful of draft picks. The Spurs also received point guard Jordan McLaughlin in the trade.
San Antonio Spurs Injury Update
First of all, it’s unlikely that Fox or McLaughlin will make their debuts tonight. The teams will need time to complete the physicals and clear all the players.
Victor Wembanyama is listed as questionable for tonight’s affair against the Grizzlies. He missed San Antonio’s loss to the Miami Heat due to an illness and he’s still dealing with the same illness.
Memphis Grizzlies Injury Update
The Grizzlies have a lot of news on the injury front. Desmond Bane is out tonight due to an ankle injury. Ja Morant and Brandon Clarke are listed as questionable against the Spurs. Marcus Smart is listed as doubtful.
Despite the injuries, Memphis is a deep team that has shown they can win even when they are short-handed.
San Antonio Spurs Starting Lineup
Once Fox is cleared to play, the question of the new starting lineup will be front and center. For now, expect interim head coach to go with Chris Paul at point guard, Stephon Castle at shooting guard, Devin Vassell at small forward, Harrison Barnes at power forward and Charles Bassey filling in for Wembanyama at center.
Fox will almost assuredly start once he’s available. The most likely outcome will be Fox starting in place of Castle.
Betting Guide: Spurs at Grizzlies
The Grizzlies are favored by 2.5 points and the over/under is 240 points. The smart money is on Memphis due to the question marks surrounding the availability of Wembanyama. San Antonio could also be caught thinking more about the Fox trade than beating the Grizzlies on this night.
