The San Antonio Spurs play their second game of the 2025 Rodeo Road Trip tonight when they go against the Atlanta Hawks. The Spurs enter the affair with a record of 21-26, while the Hawks stand at 23-27.
Both the Spurs and the Hawks have struggled lately. In their last 13 games, the Spurs are 3-10. Meanwhile, Atlanta snapped an eight-game losing streak with a win over the Detroit Pistons on Monday.
Currently, San Antonio is the 12th seed in the Western Conference and the Hawks are the 9th seed in the Eastern Conference.
De’Aaron Fox to Make His Debut
Tonight will be a special night for the Spurs because their point guard of the future De’Aaron Fox will suit up for the first time. San Antonio acquired Fox in a three-team trade with the Sacramento Kings and Chicago Bulls that saw the Spurs send away Tre Jones, Zach Collins, Sidy Cissoko and a handful of draft picks.
In return, the Spurs got a 27-year-old point guard who is averaging 25.0 points, 6.1 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game. Fox is known for his speed, finishing ability and his superb play in crunch time.
San Antonio Spurs Injury Update
Due to a finger injury, Chris Paul is questionable for tonight’s game against the Hawks. The 39-year-old hasn’t missed a game all season. He’s averaging 9.4 points and 8.2 assists per game in 29.1 minutes.
Backup center Charles Bassey will not be in uniform in Atlanta. He suffered a sprained left MCL in the loss to the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday night. Bassey’s absence could mean more minutes for Jeremy Sochan or it could bump Sandro Mamukelashvili into the rotation.
San Antonio Spurs Starting Lineup
With the addition of Fox, figuring out the starting five is difficult. Interim head coach Mitch Johnson could go in many different directions. We know that Victor Wembanyama will start at center. We can also safely say that Fox will be in the starting lineup. Harrison Barnes and Devin Vassell are other likely starters.
Who is the fifth starter? If Paul can play, he may start. Rookie Stephon Castle, who has played much better as a starter, could also stay in the starting lineup. Jeremy Sochan and Julian Champagnie also have outside chances of being moved into the starting five.
Betting Guide: Spurs at Hawks
The Spurs are favored by 4.5 points and the over/under is 243 points. The smart money is on the over. San Antonio will be excited due to the addition of Fox. The Spurs will also be extra motivated because they want the Hawks to lose because of the fact that San Antonio owns Atlanta’s first round pick this season. But the Hawks won’t go out without a fight — so this should be a high scoring battle.
