Spurs Rumors: DeMar DeRozan to Lakers in Blockbuster Trade, Warriors May Want LaMarcus Aldridge

The latest San Antonio Spurs rumors involve the potential for several deals involving some of the team’s biggest stars. One, in particular, has DeMar DeRozan on the move in a blockbuster trade which would send him to the NBA Champions, the Los Angeles Lakers. It could bring back a former member of the Spurs, and a rising young star in the league as part of the deal. The rumors arrive as the team had its first absence from the postseason in 22 years.

Spurs Rumors Involving DeRozan to Lakers

The Ringer’s Kevin O’Connor gave an indication of a potential Spurs-Lakers trade on his NBA Draft Big Board. In his update, he mentions that the “Spurs are up to something” and that San Antonio is shopping players including Patty Mills. Amongst the interested teams with Mills are the Milwaukee Bucks and Philadelphia 76ers.

O’Connor also brings up the fact that the Los Angeles Lakers are interested in former All-Star DeMar DeRozan. That deal could bring Danny Green back to the San Antonio Spurs, where he won his first championship. Green played for the Spurs from 2010-11 through the 2017-18 season.

Ironically, he was part of the Kawhi Leonard trade that brought DeRozan over to the Spurs. After winning another title in Toronto, Green joined the Lakers, who just won the title this past season at the Orlando bubble. That gave Green his third NBA title with a third different team.

The other player mentioned in the DeRozan deal is the Lakers’ Kyle Kuzma. He’s been a member of the team since they drafted him in 2017-18. Kuzma has averages of 16 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.9 assists with a 44.9 percent shooting percentage during his career thus far.

He looked to be on the rise with the Lakers, up until the team added All-Star Anthony Davis. The big man led the team in scoring this past season, edging LeBron James just slightly. It caused Kuzma’s third-year numbers to take a dip as he took a lesser role in terms of production.

Adding Kuzma and Green to the Spurs could help the team in rebuilding the roster. In particular, the veteran Green has experience playing under Gregg Popovich and could help with young stars learning the system. Kuzma could flourish alongside other young talents as the Spurs try to figure out how to contend again.

For the Lakers, it would add DeMar DeRozan as their third scoring option, making a pretty nice “Big Three.”

LaMarcus Aldridge Also on the Trade Block

Along with Patty Mills and DeMar DeRozan, Spurs rumors also indicate that LaMarcus Aldridge is on the trade block. This should come as no shock as the team appears like they are looking to rebuild. The former NBA All-Star had season-ending shoulder surgery and missed the bubble.

Nonetheless, the big man will generate some interest around the league based on his abilities. He averaged 18.9 points, had 7.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists,1.6 steals, and 1.4 blocks this past season in 33.1 minutes per game.

One team that “may be interested” already is the Golden State Warriors, according to O’Connor’s update. The Warriors were a far cry from the previous dynasty days, as they were without Klay Thompson all season as he recovered from injury. Stephen Curry was also sidelined most of the past season, playing in just five games. The Warriors finished with a 15-50 record and one of the top picks in the upcoming NBA Draft.

It’s unknown what the Warriors might be willing to give the Spurs, as that O’Connor’s report doesn’t mention it. However, the fact the team is looking to part ways with Mills, DeRozan, and Aldridge shows they are probably planning to build for the future. So it’s possible they could be adding some young talent, and even draft picks in any deals they make.

The San Antonio Spurs will also have the No. 11 pick in the 2020 NBA Draft, which is currently scheduled for November 18. Visit our Spurs news page for more of the latest player and team updates.
