incredible
for 7 games in his career with 7+ blocks
Victor 7/69
Gobert 7/752
Wemby getting DPOY has been gaining a lot of steam lately. I'm starting to believe
He’s still going to get shafted tbh. And it’s going to be the worst robbery for DPOY of all-time. You hate to see it.
Marcus Camby over Timmy says hi tbh.
Timing has gotten even more excellent.
When to jump and extend, as well as when not to go for the fake / jump too early.
So does Marc Gasol over Timmy.
Duncan wasnt the runner up either time

Gasol's grizzlies thaat year was good defensively
actually hard to argue against his dpoy le... i mean it is not close at all.
This is indeed crazy
They should change the award name to "DPOY of the best defensive team"
Nah, Camby over Duncan.
So, if Wemby finishes 3rd, he didn’t get shafted?
Is on/off really that accurate when his backup is Zach Collins, the worst C on the entire planet? I feel that number is heavily skewed. Opponents score on Zach with ease and aren’t afraid.
I don't think most players would have a problem with Victor getting the DPOY, unless that player is in the talks for it themselves. I've never seen a player affect the decisions of the other teams' entire offense just by being on the court. Even greats like Kawhi wouldn't do that, since they were mostly 1:1 defenders with ability to help.
It's still on/off. If the backup was better the Spurs would have a better record and Victor might be a shoo-in.
Here's a table of total blocks by rookies in NBA history. Victor is currently 6th with 245 blocks and he probably won't crack the top 5 (271) within the last 4 games. Where do you guys think he will end up with only 4 more games to play? He should end up over 250 and there's a reasonable chance he gets to 260 imho

To tie Zo he needs 26 blocks in 4 games which is a 6.5 average. And then 7.5 average to tie Eaton
think he should shoot for the moon and go after Bol. Just gotta average 38/game
Totally possible, just needs to start blocking his own teammates tbh
If this doesn't at least put him legitimately in the conversation, then the DPOY award is a joke.
Yes, the Timberwolves are the #1 defense and have a far superior record because they have a far superior team overall.
But the fact that the Spurs become one of the best defenses in the NBA when Wemby is on the floor and instantly become one of the worst defenses as soon as he sits proves his worth as an individual player.
Gobert will probably get it because Minnesota is the Cinderella story of the season, but I think it's going to be closer than people expect.
I don't mind the whole defensive on/off thing providing nuance, but it shouldn't be a big factor in the DPOY race. So much of the +/- is affected by the quality of his backup.
True, but it also does speak to the level of talent surrounding Wemby and not in a good way. Spurs being 22nd in Def. Rating isn't great but they would be dead last without him.
Wemby is just as much of an anchor as Gobert is, and Rudy benefits from having other plus defenders around him. Wemby basically is having to do everything right now...defend, block, rebound, bring the ball up the foor, oh...and put up 20+ a night.
