No because he was ROY and Kobe lost that le to Iverson, tbh
You could always say Kobe is as good as Iverson... I would buy that argument...
AI is one of the top 3 chuckers in basketball history, up there with the great Gilbert Arenas. Kobe has to earn his keep to be in that list
What do you mean? Kobe surpassed Iverson in FGA almost two seasons ago...
Willis Reed > Kobe
He wasn't injured and had the courage to play in a Game 7, and then proceeded to skunk the opposition.
Kobe is still over 45% in his career, he needs to get under 43% to be Iverson level
I would think so ..... but just barely.
Not sure I would agree with 43% being the cutoff... I would actually argue 45% is fairly chucky compared to the greats... (MJ: 49%, Magic: 52%, Bird: 49%, Reed: 47% Duncan: 50%, etc)
But the rape makes up that ground.
John Salley? Will Purdue? Horseface Grant?
I believe 45% is the cutoff for guards, when you're volume scoring at 43% then you can be mentioned with the greats like AI and Arenas. He's showing promise this season
Normally I'd have it worth -5%, but Iverson's riot counts for 3% tbh.
The dividing line between chucker and "he should be shooting that much given his FG%" has always been murky.
For guards, 45% has always been "acceptable-good" IMO. It's not the best, but I wouldn't count 45% as "chucker" status.
The line is probably around 42-43%.
And troll post notwithstanding, you can't compare Kobe's career FG% to Duncan's career FG%. Duncan is a big. Bigs are expected to have a better FG% simply because they're around the rim more often.
50% is "good" shooting for a big, whereas 45% is "good" for a guard.
As a fellow guard, M.J. is a valid example, but only the most delusional of Lakerfans think Kobe deserves to be in the same discussion as M.J. (just like delusional Spurfans think Ginobili deserves to be in the same discussion as Kobe), so it's really a moot comparison. You can't point to M.J.'s absurd FG% and say "Here, look, at what M.J. shot! Chucker status should therefore be delegated to those who volume shoot but make < 45% from the field."
50% is absurd for a guard. M.J.'s FG% shouldn't be the standard for what cons utes "good" shooting for a guard. His career FG% is off the charts for a guard that averaged > 20 PPG.
He also did it back 2 back in his first two seasons...
Well, dumb threads comparing the two have happened before. No, really.
Come on el, you know we never count Kobe's non-starter seasons
that's right, that's like counting MJ's Wizard years.... my bad
Would finally pass Olajuwon on my list if he gets # 3 this year.
I would have never expected a thread like this from El NoNo. It reaks of butthurtness. I'm here for you El NonNo. Let the hurt from within come out. You'll feel better in no time. I just know it!
