LePage Leaves Unhinged Voicemail For ' sucker' Rep.: 'Prove I'm Racist!'

One of the country’s most outspoken elected officials, Maine Gov. Paul LePage, left a bizarre and threatening voicemail for a Democratic state lawmaker he thought called him racist, calling Rep. Drew Gattine a “socialist sucker.”

“Mr. Gattine, this is Gov. Paul Richard LePage,” a recording of the message begins. “I would like to talk to you about your comments about my being a racist, you sucker.”

“I want to talk to you. I want you to prove that I’m a racist. I’ve spent my life helping black people and you little son-of-a- , socialist sucker,” the governor continued. “You … I need you to, just friggin. I want you to record this and make it public because I am after you. Thank you.”

The governor left the expletive-laden message on Thursday morning, after a reporter asked him to respond to critics who have called him racist.

LePage asked the reporter who'd called him racist, and while the journalist mentioned he had talked with Gattine, he didn’t say that Gattine specifically called LePage racist, The Portland Press Herald reported.

The governor later called the same news crew to his home to continuing slamming Gattine as “a snot-nosed little guy” that he would love to challenge to an old-fashioned duel.

“I’d like him to come up here because, tell you right now, I wish it were 1825,” he reportedly said.

“We would have a duel, that’s how angry I am, and I would not put my gun in the air, I guarantee you, I would not be Hamilton.

I would point it right between his eyes, because he is a snot-nosed little runt and he has not done a damn thing since he’s been in this Legislature to help move the state forward.”

Maine Governor: Over ’90 Percent’ of Drug Dealers are ‘Black and Hispanic’

LePage drew outrage earlier this year after complaining that drug dealers in Maine had names like “D-Money” and impregnate white girls:

“These aren’t the people who take drugs.

These are guys with the name D-Money, Smoothie, Shifty.

    These type of guys.

They come from Connecticut and New York, they come up here, they sell their heroin, then they go back home. Incidentally, half the time they impregnate a young, white girl before they leave, which is a real sad thing because then we have another issue we’ve got to deal with down the road.”

When asked about those comments in a town hall Wednesday night, LePage doubled down.

He insisted that he kept a binder with the picture of every drug dealer in Maine, and nearly all were minorities.

“I don’t ask them to come to Maine to sell their poison, but they come. And I will tell you, that 90-plus percent of those pictures in my book — and it’s a three-ring binder — are black and Hispanic people from Waterbury, Connecticut, the Bronx, and Brooklyn,” he insisted.

    http://www.mediaite.com/tv/maine-gov...-and-hispanic/

LePage's expected, natural fault, natural to Repug "data and logic" : he sees blacks, browns, but of course whites are the majority who deal and use but are arrested.

Imagine Romney’s first term was nearing its end right now

Here’s a thought experiment. What if Mitt Romney had won in 2012? What if it was his economy that was seeing sub-5 percent unemployment, falling poverty, and the largest median wage gains since the Census Bureau began keeping records?

There would be parades in the streets. President Romney would be hailed as the second coming of Ronald Reagan – or maybe even better! Progressivism would be discredited. The fundamental wisdom of conservatism would be affirmed.

This week’s Census Bureau data was widely celebrated and for good reason:

    income growth last year was the fastest on record;

poverty rates saw their largest one-year drop since 1968; and

the number of Americans without health insurance dropped to the lowest point ever recorded in the United States.

New York’s Jon Chait added soon after,

“It is almost impossible to overstate how thoroughly this data nullifies the central charges made against the administration’s policies.”

Republicans in this scenario is that they made fairly specific predictions:

    the Recovery Act wouldn’t help end the Great Recession;

    President Obama’s auto rescue wouldn’t help the auto industry;

the Affordable Care Act wouldn’t lower the uninsured rate; and

the Obama administration’s broader agenda related to taxes, spending, and regulations would stifle incomes and make poverty worse.

Republicans made these predictions based on their unshakable ideological beliefs, which should create a real problem for conservatives interested in a little self-reflection:

every economic prediction the GOP made about Obama’s policies was wrong. Not just a little off, either – Republicans got the entire picture backwards.
To Chait’s point, if it’s “almost impossible to overstate how thoroughly” Obama’s record “nullifies the central charges made against the administration’s policies,” it’s every bit as destructive to the central tenets to conservative assumptions about economic policy.

Romney lost and Obama delivered results Republicans said were impossible.

Perhaps Donald Trump, Paul Ryan, and Mitch McConnell could take a moment sometime over the next eight weeks to reflect on what they’d be saying right now if there were a GOP White House –
while also explaining why and how the Republican Party has been so very wrong.

    http://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-s...d=sm_fb_maddow

    Repug/conservative head ideology: 100% wrong.

Imagine if red/slave states and Repug House had not been implementing austerity for years, firing Ms of people, blocking govt spending that would push the economy even higher.

The Repugs austerity and strict obstructionism simply failed to America as much as they wanted.

‘McCarthyesque’ Republican Panel Pursues Contempt of Congress Against Tissue Procurement Firm

The so-called Select Investigative Panel on Infant Lives plans to recommend that the U.S. House of Representatives pursue the charges against StemExpress and the California-based company’s CEO, Cate Dyer.

congressional Republicans investigating an evidently nonexistent, illicit market for aborted “baby body parts” will move to hold a firm that processes human fetal tissue for medical research in contempt of Congress.

The so-called Select Investigative Panel on Infant Lives plans to recommend that the U.S. House of Representatives pursue the charges against StemExpress and the California-based company’s CEO, Cate Dyer, during a markup Wednesday.

A trio of spokespeople for House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI), who has praised the GOP-headed investigation and the leadership of chair Marsha Blackburn (R-TN), did not immediately return requests for comment about whether he would allow a vote in the coming days or in a potential lame-duck session after Election Day.

Gannett publishes 'commentary' comparing welfare recipients to wild animals

While we're all remarking on how the Donald Trump campaign is mainstreaming white supremacist themes and worldviews, let's take a moment to gawk at The Tennesseean, "part of the USA Today network," for choosing to publish this truly remarkable "commentary" from Cheatham County Republican so-and-so.

It is an anti-welfare screed led
"Feeding 'the animals' makes them dependent."

Isn’t this what Hillary and the Democratic Party are doing — continuing to make more and more people dependent by continuing to “feed them?” [...]It’s like animals at the zoo — they are totally taken care of — food, shelter, medical help, etc. As you all know, they can never be released back into their natural environment to fend for themselves and be productive in any way.

It is no different than the generations of Americans, born into an environment on the dole from government handouts . . . no longer able to fend for themselves and be productive in any way. And they have lost the distinction between right and wrong.

we've seen this specific argument before as well. The comparison of welfare recipients to wild animals eating out of good Americans' trash cans and bird feeders has been a longtime trope, among, primarily, racists who use it to paint pictures of shiftless, mostly minorities, they reckon with their hands in your wallet. "Welfare queens," I believe one especially prominent Republican blowhard put it. (It's been an ongoing theme among other Republicans for some time as well, popping up in 2014 in the Facebook posts of South Dakota Senate candidate Annette Bosworth, who is currently on probation after being convicted of felony election law violations in that race. Glad she had time to warn us all of the inherent crookedness of the poor before her own felony conviction—it would have looked awkward the other way 'round.)

    http://www.dailykos.com/story/2016/09/21/1572392/-Gannett-publishes-commentary-comparing-welfare-recipients-to-wild-animals?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_ campaign=Feed%3A+dailykos%2Findex+%28Daily+Kos%29

I suppose this Repug racist (sorry for the redundancy) doesn't know that most welfare recipients are ING WHITE, and a lot of the 1M of them are in ING KY.

Of course, the Repug racist is very probably referring only to blacks on welfare.

Democrats walk out of GOP-led Planned Parenthood hearing

The special committee formed last year to investigate connections between abortion providers and fetal tissue researchers is still going strong. Despite numerous calls from House Democrats to shut down, the Select Investigative Panel on Infant Lives is continuing to find new ways to harass scientists.

On Wednesday, Republicans on the committee voted to hold small California biotech firm StemExpress in contempt for failing to furnish all of the information that lawmakers subpoenaed.

StemExpress was thrust into the center of the controversy over Planned Parenthood last year when an anti-abortion activist accused the national women’s health organization of selling “aborted baby parts.” StemExpress — which has since severed ties with Planned Parenthood — used to work with some abortion clinics to gather fetal tissue samples from patients who chose to donate those materials to scientific research.

Among other things, the GOP-led committee is seeking a list of names of the company’s employees, including laboratory technicians — a request that StemExpress has resisted to protect its workers’ privacy and safety.

Refusing to participate in what ranking member Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) called an “illegitimate and unsanctioned effort,” Democrats on the committee walked out before Wednesday’s vote.

“We refuse to sanction or endorse this exercise by continuing to participate,” she said before leading the walk-out.

After walking out, Rep. Diana DeGette (D-CO) told reporters the proceeding was a “kangaroo court,” according to The Washington Post.

More anti-science/Pro-Carbon bull from San Antonio's own old, wealthy, white Christian Scientist guy

Climate Science ‘Skeptic’ Lamar Smith Claims to Aid Scientists in Latest Crusade

In a letter to Smith, legal scholars called his subpoenas over the Exxon climate change investigations “misguided” and “unenforceable.”

Texas Congressman Lamar Smith sought to justify the House Committee on Science’s authority to investigate state attorneys general and environmental groups at a Wednesday hearing.

“The question we explore today isn’t partisan. It’s ins utional,” he said. “What is the scope of Congress’ oversight powers?”

During his three years as head of the science committee, Smith, a self-proclaimed “climate semi-skeptic,” has issued six subpoenas — more than the number filed previously in the committee’s 58-year history.

Last year, Smith alleged that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration had tampered with global temperature data and subpoenaed communications among the agency’s scientists.

In May, Smith subpoenaed the New York and Massachusetts attorneys general and nine environmental groups for their internal communications, suggesting that there was evidence of inappropriate collusion between the parties in their efforts to look into what Exxon knew about climate change.

Still, Smith and other GOP committee members’ key argument in the Exxon investigation has been that the state attorneys’ investigations would have a chilling effect on future climate research.

“The committee is concerned that such investigations may have an adverse impact on federally-funded scientific research,”

Smith said in his opening statement. If the investigations interfere in scientists’ ability to conduct research then Smith suggested that the committee look into appropriating funds “to even out any such imbalances caused as a result.”

The committee took up the ongoing disagreement between Exxon and its Republican allies in the House, and Democratic attorneys general who want to prosecute the company for fraud.

At the heart of the disagreement: Whether Exxon understood the effects of fossil fuels on climate change decades ago but decided to withhold that information from the public and its shareholders.

Boehner’s GOP replacement slurs veterans as ‘moochers’ and ‘pretenders’ for seeking VA care

A Donald Trump-backing Ohio Republican is defending his claims that “moochers” and “pretenders” are overwhelming the Veterans Affairs’ health care system with fraudulent claims — even though there’s little evidence of abuse.Rep. Warren Davidson (R-OH) suggested earlier this week at a town hall event in West Chester, Ohio, that some veterans who sought care from the federal agency weren’t as worthy of treatment than others

“Just like workers comp out here’s got moochers, I wish that there were no vets that were the same sort of problem on our society,” Davidson said.

“But part of the problem is there are some vets that are moochers and they’re clogging up the system, and we do as taxpayers want to make sure the VA filters out these folks that are pretenders.

Just like we wish there were no people out there with stolen valor, but that’s a problem in the vet community, too.”

Texas Supreme Court Allows Medicaid Cuts to Children's Therapy to Proceed

A significant cut to the amount of money Texas pays therapists who treat children with disabilities was finally cleared to take effect — more than one year after state lawmakers originally ordered it — when the Texas Supreme Court on Friday declined to hear a lawsuit over the budget cut's legality.

Last year, a group of concerned Texans filed a lawsuit seeking to block the $350 million cut to Medicaid, the federal-state insurance program for the poor and disabled, from taking effect. That group included speech, physical and occupational therapy providers and the families of children who receive their service. They argued that the cuts were so steep that providers would have to close their businesses and forgo seeing as many as 60,000 children.

How are you celebrating Oilfield Prayer Day?

In an announcement we only wish were part of an SNL cold open, Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin proclaimed Oct. 13 Oilfield Prayer Day. All you need to celebrate is rest, relaxation, and a solemn request to the heavens to make fracking great again.
The official statewide initiative is the brainchild of Fallin and Reverend Tom Beddow,

who runs the Baptist General Convention of Oklahoma’s Oil Path Chaplains ministry. HOLY OILY !

“We’re asking churches all over Oklahoma to open their doors, put on a pot of coffee, and pray for the oil field,” Beddow told The Oklahoman. While originally calling upon only Christians, Fallin revised the proclamation Monday to beseech oil-enthusiasts of all faiths.

GOP Rep Takes to House Floor to Air Grievances Over Being Told He Can’t Grill on Office Balcony

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) is apparently still upset with the Architect of the Capitol for telling him he can’t use his office balcony to grill his famously tasty ribs.

Taking to the House floor, Gohmert brought up the fact that seven years ago, he was told that he had to put his part-time BBQ operation on ice.

“About seven years ago, the Architect of the Capitol, who works for the House and Senate, had decided that we all work for him and started making demands,” Gohmert noted in his floor speech.

“One of which was, I could not cook ribs and share them with other members of Congress, as I’d been doing for a quarter — once a quarter.”

Michigan bans bans on plastic bags, takeout food containers, styrofoam cups and just about anything else

Others see the skirmish as part of a larger war: The unending fight to combat government tyranny and protect the American Way.

    THE CONGRESSIONAL ATTACK ON SCIENCE

Having done an all-nighter for surgery, Eugene Gu was groggily taken aback by the forceful knocking on his door at 10 a.m.

    “This is the police,”

a voice said. Knowing he had done nothing wrong, the Vanderbilt researcher asked whether they had a warrant, and that’s when things got scary.

“We don’t need a warrant; we’re issuing a congressional subpoena.”

For those outside the scientific community, you may be surprised to hear of incidents like these, or learn that

American academic ins utions and science journalists have lately found themselves screaming “chilling effect,” “war on science” and “witch hunt.”

But tuned in or not, legal loopholes surrounding subpoenas, congressional investigations and Freedom of Information Act requests have left science under fire.

Back in 2005, the National Research Council had just reviewed Michael Mann, Raymond S. Bradley and Malcolm Hughes’ infamous ’98 hockey-stick graph at the behest of the House Committee on Science, Space and Technology, concluding that they “roughly agree with the substance of their findings.”

Enter Joe Barton, chair of the House Energy and Commerce Committee and a climate-change
denier, who commissioned his own investigation, which resulted in the non-peer-reviewed, climate-change-denying “Wegman Report.” He utilized this as a springboard for a deeper investigation into Mann — a probe characterized by rival House Science Committee chair Sherwood Boehlert as “misguided and illegitimate.”

The representatives who use these subpoenas argue they help uphold the ("weaponized") First Amendment and that taxpayer dollars are well spent.

But those on the receiving end see it as ideologically driven harassment. The FOIA requests that Mann faced are still prevalent for fetal-tissue, climate and genetic-modification researchers.

Lauren Kurtz of the CSLDF, which has helped represent more than

100 climate scientists in FOIA cases,

says such requests don’t require motive or any legal standard, other than citizenship. “You can ask for whatever you want, and they can be quite burdensome,” she says. Granted, FOIA requests are useful for a wide array of investigations, but they are easily abused, offering private correspondence — wrested from context — that could provide the kind of specious evidence needed to justify a measure currently in vogue: subpoenas.

As with all congressional subpoenas, rights we take for granted, like attorney-client or spousal privilege, do not apply.

If someone doesn’t cooperate, they can be held in contempt of Congress.

The difference? The subpoenas can be issued by a single committee chair — with no other input or votes.

This is exactly what a few congressional chairs have started doing:

subpoenaing researchers they believe to be inappropriately political or lacking the due objectivity of proper taxpayer-funded research with unprecedented bravado.

    http://www.ozy.com/pov/the-congressi...a04bf10a595031

OK, you Repugs, bubbas, kickers, assholes, righwingnutjobs, KKK: why are the Repugs harassing govt scientists?

Senate Republicans introduce bill to slash security at US embassies

The current bill, S.11, which had been read twice and referred to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee…. targets a specific State Department funding — not funds for the “Acquisition and Maintenance of Buildings Abroad” but for

    “Embassy Security, Construction, and Maintenance.”

    The bill further includes

restrictions for all security, construction, and maintenance funding worldwide

for FY2018 and FY2019 except for the embassy in Tel Aviv until its relocation.

Restriction on Funding Subject to Opening Determination.–

Not more than 50 percent of the funds appropriated to the Department of State for fiscal year 2017 under the heading “Embassy Security, Construction, and Maintenance” may be obligated until the Secretary of State determines and reports to Congress that the United States Embassy in Jerusalem has officially opened.

    Just so we’re clear,

three American senators including those who were screaming #BENGHAZI for the last several years have put forward a bill that would freeze half the State Department funding on embassy security until the new secretary of state reports to Congress that the US Embassy in Jerusalem has “officially opened.”

North Dakota Bill Would Protect Drivers Who ‘Accidentally’ Hit And Kill Protesters

A bill that state GOP Rep. Keith Kempenich introduced would exempt drivers from liability if they accidentally hit a pedestrian, according to the Bismarck Tribune. House Bill 1203 was written up in direct response to groups of protesters blocking roadways, Kempenich told the paper. He claims protesters were seen jumping out in front of vehicles.

“It’s shifting the burden of proof from the motor vehicle driver to the pedestrian,” Kempenich said. “They’re intentionally putting themselves in danger.”

He admits that the law might be used in cases that don’t involve protests. But a few casualties of justice are apparently worth it; his bill would mitigate instances when panicked drivers might have accidentally “punched the accelerator rather than the brakes” as protesters blocked the roads.

Other new bills would be a thorn in the side of protesters and the federal government. One measure would make it a crime for adults to wear masks nearly across the board, while another would allow the state to sue the federal government over millions in extra police costs, according to ABC News.

Republicans propose bill making it legal for police to kill protesters

The Indiana state legislature is considering an authoritarian bill that would essentially allow police to kill protesters with zero accountability.

Republican senator Jim Tomes introduced Senate Bill 285 in January, though it was given its first committee hearing on Wednesday. The bill authorizes city officials to use “any means necessary” to break up a group of 10 or more protesters blocking traffic, “even to the point of costing lives.”

“A responsible public official shall, not later than 15 minutes after learning of a mass traffic obstruction in the official’s jurisdiction, dispatch all available law enforcement officers … with directions to use any means necessary to clear the roads of the persons unlawfully obstructing vehicular traffic,”

South Dakota lawmakers declare state of ’emergency’ to force repeal of voter-imposed ethics law

Lawmakers in South Dakota are invoking emergency powers to overturn an anti-corruption law that was passed by a ballot measure during the 2016 election.

The South Dakota Government Accountability and Anti-Corruption Act makes it illegal for lawmakers to receive more than a total of $100 annually from lobbyists in the form of “any compensation, reward, employment, gift, honorarium, beverage, meal, food, or other thing of value made or given directly or indirectly.”

The law, which was passed by a majority of voters in November, immediately incited panic among state officials and lawmakers.

Some resigned from their posts while

others cancelled meetings with any groups represented by lobbyists. SCURRYING away like roaches and rats

Lawmakers who are found guilty of violating the act face $1,000 in fines and up to one year in prison.

According to a statement from the advocacy group Represent South Dakota, lawmakers are now

trying to use their “emergency powers to bypass normal check and balances, and repeal America’s first statement Anti-Corruption Act.”

Chair Of House ‘Science’ Committee: Donald Trump Best Source Of Facts On Climate, Hair Care

“Just think what the media would be saying about President Trump if he were a Democrat,” Smith said during the evening time reserved for one-minute speeches. “He has tremendous energy.

He campaigned for 18 months, puts in 15-hour days, and has the stamina of a bull elephant, like Teddy Roosevelt.

He is courageous and fearless. Given the amount of hate directed his way, no doubt he constantly receives death threats, but that doesn’t curtail his public appearances or seem to worry him in the least.”

“The national liberal media won’t print that, or air it, or post it,” Smith said.

“Better to get your news directly from the president. In fact, it might be the only way to get the unvarnished truth.”

Thanks boo, ribs are one of the critical issues our nation faces under a new administration.
Isn't it nice when this was still something that made the news?

Can you remember what a slow news day was like?

em. Blocking roadways is illegal and if they intentionally jump in front of a vehicle in a roadway they deserve to get their ass run over.
Yeah. Because wishing death on people expressing political views is what America is all about.
